Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- It was the "Big Dog" who put the bite on the Miami Heat in the fourth quarter.

Glenn Robinson scored 13 of his 30 points in the final period as the Milwaukee Bucks cooled off the Miami Heat, 93-85, for their fifth win in seven games.

Held in check for most of the fourth quarter, Alonzo Mourning scored his only four points of the period on consecutive baskets to cut the deficit to 89-85 with 1:27 to play. But Robinson answered 12 seconds later with a 19-footer as the Bucks went up, 91-85.

Mourning, who led Miami with 25 points, missed baskets on three straight possessions. Robinson sank two free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the win.

"This is a big win for us," Robinson said. "It's important to follow up a big win. We won in San Antonio and we wanted this one. Charlotte will be a big game for us (on Wednesday). You've got to have a lot of scorers and a lot of threats out there."

Anthony Carter added 15 points for the Heat, who had a two-game winning streak stopped.

Milwaukee led 72-65 after three quarters, but the Heat went on a 7-2 run to start the fourth. Carter sank 1-of-2 free throws with 8:16 remaining to pull Miami within 74-72.

The Bucks surged to an 84-76 advantage with 5:13 to play on a basket by Sam Cassell, one of only two shots he made in 12 attempts. Robinson's only 3-pointer of the game enabled Milwaukee to grab an 87-78 lead with 3:15 to play.

"Glenn was on tonight," Bucks coach George Karl said. "Sam Cassell made some good passes and decisions to get the ball to Glenn in the fourth quarter. Tonight we made a little step toward getting better."

Milwaukee made only 41 percent (36-of-87) of its shots but sank 17-of-19 free throws and had a 45-38 rebounding edge.

The Bucks held a 57-42 lead at halftime, but the Heat scored the first eight points of the third quarter, capped by a layup by Carter with 8:43 to play. Milwaukee shot a dismal 25 percent (6-of-24) in the period and scored only 15 points.

Robinson scored nine points and Ray Allen had seven of his 22 in the first quarter as Milwaukee took a 26-24 lead. The Bucks opened the second with a 12-3 run and extended their lead to 57-39 in the final minute of the half. J.R. Reid capped an 11-1 run with a 20-footer from the right corner.

"In the first half, we didn't play hard," Miami coach Pat Riley said. "We cannot be inefficient on the road and expect to win. We have to get more than Alonzo playing well."

Miami, which played without second-leading scorer Jamal Mashburn, shot 44 percent (30-of-68) but only 2-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Heat also missed 11-of-34 free throws. Mashburn sat out with a sprained left ankle.
