Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Malik Sealy sank a one-handed jumper as time expired to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to their fifth straight victory, 107-105 over the Orlando Magic.

Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and broke his own team record with 23 rebounds for Minnesota, which won for just the second time in 10 all-time meetings at Orlando.

"Basically, I was trying to be myself and stay aggressive," Garnett said. "We have a lot of guys who are scorers and can do a lot of different things. But it starts from the top night in and night out and I try to bring that certain energy for my teammates to feed off of."

Garnett missed a jumper from the left sideline with six seconds left and Sam Mitchell missed a follow attempt with a high rebound falling to Sealy, who just got off the winning shot before the buzzer.

"I didn't know who was going to get it," Sealy said. "I was just trying to get another attempt at the basket. Joe (Smith) and Sam got some tips on it and I think the big thing was when (Chris) Gatling saves it. I put it up and put it near the rim and tried to get fouled somehow."

The 23-year-old Garnett had 21 rebounds in Minnesota's last loss, a 97-88 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers on December 17. He also had four of Minnesota's seven blocked shots.

Terrell Brandon had 18 points and 15 assists and Smith scored 18 points off the bench for the Timberwolves, who led by as many as 13 points in the third period.

Guards Tariq Abdul-Wahad and Darrell Armstrong each scored 16 points for Orlando, which was dominated in the frontcourt and had a season-high five-game winning streak stopped.

"We did dig ourselves a hole at the beginning of the game, but our energy was just there off and on," Armstrong said. "You just can't be like that. You've got to always keep the energy on."

Rookie Chucky Atkins made consecutive baskets, including a running jumper that capped a 13-4 run and pulled the Magic within 95-94 with 6:09 to go. Atkins scored all of his 12 points in the fourth quarter.

"Chucky was great and it's funny because he didn't play well in the first half," said Orlando coach Doc Rivers. "He picked it up in the second half and basically brought us back. Chucky is one of those guys that is a streak shooter and the thing I like about him is he's noty afraid to shoot the ball when he is hot."

Atkins scored six straight points, with his 19-footer giving the Magic a 101-99 lead with 2:22 remaining. Garnett made one free throw with 2:03 left, but Gatling responded with a short hook shot to give Orlando a 103-100 lead with 1:47 to play.

Mitchell, who made 6-of-8 shots and scored 14 points off the bench, hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 103-103 with 1:32 left. After Armstrong missed a 3-pointer, Brandon drove for a layup to put Minnesota ahead 105-103 with 51 seconds to play. Bo Outlaw's layup forged the final tie 14 seconds later.

Garnett scored 15 points in the first half when Minnesota held a 59-56 lead. Garnett's 19 boards in the first and second quarters were five more than Orlando's total.

Minnesota scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take a 67-56 lead when Garnett made two free throws with 9:04 left. Garnett had a jumper from the left corner to give the Timberwolves their biggest lead, 73-60, with 5:54 to go.
