Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady scored 24 points off the bench to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 109-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

McGrady hit 10-of-16 shots from the field and added 11 rebounds for the Raptors, who have won three straight road games for the first time this season.

"I just wanted to come out and give the team some energy, McGrady said. "I think I did a good job. I tried to find my open teammates because (Dallas) was doubling a lot. I just tried to do what was best for the team."

With Dallas trailing 101-98, Hubert Davis missed an open 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining. Cedric Ceballos failed to convert on two layups after grabbing offensive rebounds during the sequence and the Mavericks never threatened again.

Muggsy Bogues hit four free throws and Antonio Davis added two to seal the victory.

Dirk Nowitzki scored a career-high 32 points for Dallas, which has lost three straight games and seven of eight. The sharp-shooting forward singlehandedly kept the Mavericks close by scoring 14 points in the final period.

Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 93-90 with 4:43 remaining. After a follow dunk by McGrady, he hit another shot from behind the arc to draw Dallas within 99-95 at the 1:34 mark.

Vince Carter hit a layup to give Toronto a 101-95 cushion with 1:13 left. Nowitzki answered with another 3-pointer from the right side, making the score 101-98 with 1:05 remaining.

"I'm feeling great right now," Nowitzki said. "I just feel good about my shot. As long as the jump shot is going that well I just float around out there and shoot the ball."

Antonio Davis had a solid night, scoring 19 points and adding 15 rebounds. Raptors coach Butch Carter had high praise for his veteran forward.

"He's the biggest difference in the Eastern Conference," Carter said. "If we don't have him, I don't know where we'd be. He does this every night."

Carter finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Raptors, who finished their road trip at 3-1. The high-flying forward credited McGrady for his contribution.

"Once again he stepped up," Carter said. "We knew we were going to need him tonight, especially for his athletic ability and his ability to get to the hole. He really did a good job tonight."

Cedric Ceballos scored 26 points for the Mavericks, who shot 46 percent (41-of-89) from the field but were outrebounded, 54-34.

"We couldn't stop them defensively," Dallas forward Erick Strickland said. "We kept giving them lanes. They were getting lots of dunks. We weren't rebounding or blocking out. We just didnt do the right things to win the game."

Charles Oakley and Doug Christie scored 14 points apiece for the Raptors, who shot 48 percent (43-of-90) and hit 20-of-23 free throws.
