Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks were sleeping until Bob Sura woke them up.

A fourth-quarter shoving match between Sura and Ray Allen sparked the Bucks, who closed with a 14-3 run and escaped with a 91-90 victory over the slumping Cleveland Cavaliers.

"Every season has those games that rejuvenate you," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "Hopefully, this one will do that for us in January."

With just under five minutes to go, Sura was harassing Allen on defense and gave him an extra push after drawing a foul while trying to block his jumper. Allen bumped Sura and the two yelled at each other before being separated.

"I don't know why Ray came at me," Sura said. "I turned my back. I didn't deserve a T (technical foul)."

A basket by Mark Bryant gave Cleveland an 87-77 lead with 4:33 left but Milwaukee took an aggressive stance thereafter. The Bucks scored 12 of their last 14 points from the free-throw line and held the Cavaliers to just a three-point play by Brevin Knight.

Following a wild sequence off a jump ball, two free throws by Tim Thomas gave Milwaukee a 91-90 lead with 13 seconds left. On Cleveland's last possession, Sura drove for a flip shot that hit the front of the rim.

"I didn't even understand what was going on in the fourth quarter," Karl said. "I don't even know if I want to look at the film. Maybe I'll look at the last five minutes."

Sam Cassell scored 20 points for the Bucks, who were 12-of-12 from the line in the final 4 1/2 minutes and won for the third time in their last four games. Milwaukee avenged a 117-112 loss at Cleveland on November 13.

Sura had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs, who attempted just 14 free throws in the entire game and have lost eight of their last nine games.

After Bryant's hoop, Allen, Cassell and Ervin Johnson each made a pair of free throws. Cassell followed with a 20-footer and two free throws 17 seconds apart for an 87-87 tie with 1:20 to play.

Knight responded with a jumper and was fouled. His free throw gave Cleveland a 90-87 edge with 1:08 to go but the Cavs never scored again.

Two free throws by Allen cut the deficit to one point with 24 seconds left before the Bucks pressured the Cavs and Allen tied up Cedric Henderson. On the jump ball, the ball was poked to Thomas, who was fouled as he missed a layup. His free throws gave Milwaukee the lead.

"At the end, on a jump ball, I thought we had a hand on it first, and Tim ended up with it," Cavs coach Randy Wittman said.

Glenn Robinson scored 17 points, Allen added 15 and Thomas 13 for the Bucks, who shot just 42 percent (31-of-74) from the field but 76 percent (28-of-37) from the line. Milwaukee forced 23 turnovers.

"These kind of games you just have to find a way to win," said Robinson, who made 7-of-17 shots. "Nights like this, you've just got to keep digging and find a way."

The Bucks also did a good job on Cavs star forward Shawn Kemp, who had just eight points and seven turnovers before fouling out. Cleveland shot 46 percent (37-of-81).

Sura scored nine points in the first quarter as the Cavs opened a 29-23 lead. They led 47-45 at halftime and 70-61 entering the fourth quarter.
