Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Allen Iverson did what he usually does, Matt Geiger did something for the first time this season and the Philadelphia 76ers kept doing what they have been doing.

Iverson led Philadelphia with 34 points, Geiger scored a season-high 26 and the 76ers posted their fifth win in six games, 113-92 over the lifeless Golden State Warriors.

Iverson, the NBA's top scorer at 30.6 points per game, hit 11-of-19 shots from the floor and all 11 of his free-throw attempts as Philadelphia moved a season-high four games above .500.

"Our mindset was to take care of business and to get this game no matter what," Iverson said. "We know teams are going to play hard against us and we were just focused for the whole 48 minutes."

Geiger scored more than 20 points for the first time this season, matching Iverson with an 11-of-19 shooting performance to go with nine rebounds. He fell three points shy of his career high, established on March 2, 1998 against Golden State. The Sixers have won five in a row at home.

"Coming back (from knee surgery) was tough on me at the beginning, but I'm just working hard and I'm able now to run and jump and do the things that I'm accustomed to doing," Geiger said. "I'm happy that my game is starting to come back."

Antawn Jamison scored 26 points for the Warriors, who slipped to 0-4 under new coach Garry St. Jean, have lost seven straight overall and five in a row on the road.

"The first half they wanted the ball more, they were aggressive on the glass," St. Jean said. "We were playing better in the second half but we didn't make our perimeter shots. We just didn't have enough to get over the hump."

"We've been having some mental lapses for like three or four minutes the last couple of games," Jamison added. "Offensively and defensively, we're not getting the job done. We're not on the same page right now. Guys are still trying to figure out their roles here."

Philadelphia swept the two-game season series from the Warriors and has taken the last three meetings.

Donyell Marshall had 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Golden State, which has dropped nine of 10 since a season-high three-game winning streak.

Tony Farmer and Jason Caffey scored 13 points apiece for the Warriors, who fell behind 62-49 at halftime and never seriously challenged thereafter.

Golden State trimmed the margin to eight and had the ball with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter, but Iverson stripped Marshall and fed Geiger for an uncontested layup to make it 79-69.

Larry Hughes scored 13 points off the bench and George Lynch added 10 for Philadelphia, which shot 53 percent (43-of-81) and held a 54-37 advantage on the boards.

The Sixers ran circles around the lethargic Warriors, holding a 25-4 advantage in fast-break points and scoring 27 points off turnovers. Golden State shot 40 percent (35-of-87) and never led.

"We were unselfish and that leads to good shots," Philadelphia coach Larry Brown said. "Rebounding was the key. When we made them take long shots, we'd get the rebound and turn it into a fast break. When they went with size against us, we were able to pressure them and run the floor well."

Leading 29-23 after one quarter, the Sixers opened things up in the second period. Rookie Todd MacCulloch converted a three-point play and Iverson hit back-to-back running jumpers before MacCulloch drained another short jumper to give Philadelphia a 46-35 cushion with 5:12 left in the half.
