Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 29 points and the Vancouver Grizzlies won consecutive road games for the first time in nearly three years with a surprising 107-97 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

The Grizzlies, who snapped a 30-game road losing streak earlier this season, improved to 4-13 away from home and 3-1 on a five-game trip. It is the first time they have won two in a row on the road since the final two games of the 1996-97 season.

"Finally, we're playing with confidence," Vancouver coach Lionel Hollins said. "We've done it before at times, now we're doing it with consistency and on the road."

Michael Dickerson added 21 points and Othella Harrington 16 for Vancouver, which took control with an 11-3 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters and opened an 84-74 advantage.

Vince Carter and Antonio Davis had 20 points apiece for the Raptors, who have lost three of their last four following a three-game winning streak.

After Charles Oakley hit an 18-footer to bring the Raptors within 73-71 with under a minute remaining in the third quarter, Dickerson answered with a pair of foul shots to trigger the decisive 11-3 burst.

Dickerson had five points in the run, capping it with a three-point play that pushed the lead to 84-74 with 10:05 to go. The Grizzlies led by at least seven points thereafter and did not disappoint at the free-throw line.

Vancouver went 18-of-21 at the line in the fourth quarter and 40-of-46 overall. Abdur-Rahim was the key contributor, making 15-of-16 attempts.

"It seems like the same kind of effort we've had on every one of our Sunday home games," Toronto coach Butch Carter said. "But you can't have a good effort when the zebras put any team on the line 40-plus times. That was the worst whistle I've seen since Hamilton High School, when my opposing coach John Smith brought his three cousins out to ref the game."

Abdur-Rahim was unapologetic for his club getting to the line.

"Today was really ugly," he said. "We had 40 points from the line, I don't care. Ugly or not, we were on top. It shows we're playing harder than we did earlier this season and that we have the toughness to win no matter what."

Toronto was 16-of-22 at the line.

The Grizzlies trailed by one point after the first quarter but took the lead for good, 27-26, with 11:39 left before halftime after Dickerson nailed an 18-footer. Dickerson and Abdur-Rahim had 12 points apiece in the half as the lead grew to 55-44.

"Hey, man, this is our best road trip in history," Dickerson said. "Everybody is playing together and we're not giving up easy baskets. Coach has given everyone the ability to showcase our individual talent. Lionel is bringing it out and it's a great feeling."

Mike Bibby added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Grizzlies, who shot 46 percent (33-of-72) compared to 48 percent (40-of-83) for Toronto.
