Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Charlotte Hornets completed a winless road trip with their worst loss ever as Ray Allen had 26 points and eight assists and Tim Thomas added 21 points off the bench to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 137-87 romp.

Milwaukee shot a scorching season-best 64 percent (55-of-86) from the field and set a franchise record with 13 3-pointers in 23 attempts. The Bucks also were nearly perfect from the line, making 14-of-15 shots. They also dominated inside, outscoring the Hornets in the paint, 50-28.

"We ran well, we defended well, we passed well, we made a commitment to the pass and that all leads to a rare easy win," said Milwaukee coach George Karl. "We played as a team and we played with pride. We had a very soft shootaround and I told them that I was concerned. But they proved me wrong and played a spectacular basketball game."

Allen, expected to be officially named to the United States Olympic team on Tuesday, made 10-of-16 shots as the Bucks won their sixth straight home game. Thomas hit 7-of-8 shots, including 6-of-7 from behind the arc. He sank a 3-pointer right in front of Charlotte's bench to give Milwaukee a 131-79 lead with 2:58 to go.

Robert Traylor, who had eight points in 12 minutes, made a seven-footer to give the Bucks their biggest lead at 124-68 with 6:04 to play. Traylor also had powerful dunk that completed a fast break with 2:41 remaining to make it 133-79.

"It was weird, I stick with a big lead, I don't know how to substitute," Karl said.

Milwaukee's biggest win was a 143-84 triumph over Detroit on December 26, 1978.

Sam Cassell had 18 points and 12 assists, Glenn Robinson scored 13 points and Scott Williams added 12 for the Bucks, who placed seven players in double figures.

David Wesley scored 23 points and Elden Campbell added 12 for Charlotte, which shot 40 percent (33-of-82) and completed an 0-6 road trip.

The Hornets have lost eight in a row away from Charlotte and fell to 5-14 on the road. Their worst previous defeat was 128-88 against the SEattle SuperSonics on November 7, 1989.

"It's even more difficult to win when you're on the road and you don't have everyone," said Charlotte coach Paul Silas. "Derrick (Coleman) had flu symptoms and couldn't give me full minutes, and of course Eddie (Jones) is out. But the young guys have to learn to win on their own, and they have to learn quick."

The Bucks never trailed, shooting 56 percent (14-of-25) in the first quarter for a 31-18 lead.

Charlotte cut the deficit to 35-27 when Campbell made a pair of free throws with 8:39 left in the second quarter. But Danny Manning answered with a 16-footer and the Hornets did not get within single digits thereafter. Manning scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

Ervin Johnson, who had eight points and 13 rebounds, dunked to cap a 12-2 run and push the margin to 81-51 with 8:21 remaining in the third quarter. The Bucks built the lead to 100-66 heading into the final period.

Milwaukee scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter with Vinny Del Negro making consecutive hoops for four of his 10 points. That spurt became a 24-2 run capped by Traylor's basket.
