Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors finally have their first win of the 21st century.

Antawn Jamison keyed a decisive fourth quarter run as the Warriors stopped a league season-high 12-game losing streak with a 113-100 victory over the slumping Orlando Magic.

Golden State won for the first time since December 20 against Sacramento and gave Garry St. Jean his first win as coach. St. Jean, the Warriors general manager, had lost his first nine games as coach since replacing P.J. Carlesimo on December 27.

Trailing 78-75 13 seconds into the fourth quarter, the Warriors reeled off the next 16 points, capped by a running jumper by rookie Vonteego Cummings for a 91-78 lead with 5:47 remaining. Jamison had seven points in the burst.

Jamison finished with a career-high 32 points on 14-of-22 shooting and Donyell Marshall added 20 and 13 rebounds for the Warriors, who won for the first time in 31 games this season when trailing after three periods.

"It's a great sense of relief and it was a holiday today," Marshall said. "We could enjoy this win but we can't sit back and dwell on the win. We've got to keep focusing and moving forward. We can't take two steps forward and three back."

Tariq Abdul-Wahad scored 19 points and Darrell Armstrong had 18 for Orlando, which went scoreless for a stretch of more than seven minutes in the fourth quarter.

Orlando suffered its season-high seventh straight loss and has dropped 12 of its last 13 games.

"We broke a lot of streaks out there today," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "We broke their losing streak and we broke their 0-30 streak going into the fourth quarter. It's funny. We went up by one and I heard guys say, `Hey, they are 0-30 in the fourth quarter.' That was horrible."

Following Chris Gatling's layup to start the fourth quarter that gave the Magic a three-point lead, Marshall and Cummings each had a basket to put Golden State ahead for good.

Jamison collected seven of the final 12 points in the run that pushed the Warriors' lead to 91-78 with 5:49 to go. Golden State led by double digits thereafter. Armstrong hit a jumper with 5:12 to go to end Orlando's drought.

In his second season, Jamison surpassed his previous career high of 28 points, established earlier this month against Dallas.

"Sometimes you have one of those days, sometimes you don't," Jamison said. "I've been starting off quickly but for some reason I haven't been able to get over the hump. Tonight was one of those nights where my defense helped me out offensively. But it's a career high and we won the game. If I got five points and we still won, I'd still be the same person I am now."

Mookie Blaylock added 20 points and eight assists for the Warriors, who shot 51 percent (47-of-92). Orlando finished at 45 percent (39-of-86) and committed 22 turnovers.

A jumper by Tony Farmer gave the Warriors a 73-66 advantage with 3:45 left in the third quarter. However, Orlando closed the period on a 10-2 burst to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

"You're going to lose games but shouldn't get outworked like we did," said Magic forward Michael Doleac. "They came out and wanted it more than us. They played hard, getting the loose balls and running up and down having fun. We were kind of just out there. We weren't into it, weren't passionate. We didn't have the fire to go out there and win the game. They just outplayed us and kicked our (butt)."
