Game StorySACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Rodney Rogers collected a career-high 36 points off the bench as the Phoenix Suns used a late fourth-quarter surge for a 117-108 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
Rogers hit 14-of-19 shots, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and made all five of his free throws in surpassing his previous high of 34 set against Washington in February 1998, when he was with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Phoenix has won six of its last seven games and moved into a tie with Sacramento for fourth place in the Western Conference.
"When I have the shot I take it, and a lot of teams leave me wide open," Rogers said. "I always have pretty good games against Sacramento but tonight the coach called on me early and I was able to go in and provide for the team and get the win."
"Obviously, Rodney was huge off the bench, as he has been in a lot of games this year," Phoenix coach Scott Skiles said. "He can make threes, he can make the medium-range jump shot, he got to the hole strong -- he's just a good all-around player."
The Suns used a 10-2 run midway through the final quarter to take a 110-98 lead with 2:25 remaining.
Sacramento closed to 110-105 with 1:22 left on two free throws by Chris Webber and a 3-pointer by Jon Barry. But Penny Hardaway and Tom Gugliotta added two free throws apiece and Rogers followed a 3-pointer by Nick Anderson with two foul shots to give Phoenix a commanding 116-108 advantage with 41 seconds to play.
"I probably won't be able to talk in the morning, I've got a sore throat from yelling, but that was a big win," Skiles said. "I thought beginning to end we played pretty well, but we still had some defensive breakdowns."
"We just didn't show a very good effort," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "We just allowed so many easy baskets. We turned the ball over too many times. All the things we talked about needing to get done, we did not get done and we got beat. they took it to us and we deserve what we got."
Rogers scored six points in the opening quarter as Sacramento took a 30-29 lead. The Kings led 63-56 midway through the second quarter, but Rogers scored nine of his 11 points in the period during an 18-4 run which gave Phoenix a 63-56 cushion in the waning seconds.
Nick Anderson's 3-pointer tied the score at 80-80 with 3:17 left in the third quarter. But Phoenix scored 10 of the next 12 points, with Rogers contributing two 3-pointers, to go ahead 90-82 with 0:42 remaining. The Suns took a 90-86 lead into the final period.
Gugliotta finished with 18 points, Robinson added 16 and Jason Kidd had 11 assists, 10 rebounds and eight points for the Suns, who shot 52 percent (45-of-87) from the field and made 22-of-23 from the line.
Webber finished with 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Kings fell to 19-4 at home and 10-1 on Tuesdays.
Anderson and Jason Williams added 15 points apiece for Sacramento, which shot 47 percent (41-of-87) and was outrebounded 46-33.
"Phoenix has a lot of quickness inside and it causes problems for us," Kings forward Corliss Williamson said. "They can change the lineup on us and cause matchup problems because they are not a traditional team with one true center."
