Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- It was a successful debut for Toni Kukoc, and a successful game for his new teammates.

Allen Iverson scored 19 points on 8-of-23 shooting and Kukoc added 11 off the bench in his first game for the Philadelphia 76ers, who pulled away early and routed the Cleveland Cavaliers, 104-75.

Acquired from Chicago on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal involving Golden State, Kukoc entered late in the first quarter and played 24 minutes. He was 5-for-7 from the field, had four assists and grabbed four rebounds.

"He played great for not having any practice time," Philadelphia coach Larry Brown said of Kukoc. "If he plays like this every night, it becomes contagious. He's going to add a lot to our ballclub."

The 76ers led 25-22 after one period before using a 22-2 run late in the second quarter to improve to 3-0 against the Cavaliers this season after losing 26 of the previous 28 meetings.

Theo Ratliff had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Tyrone Hill contributed 14 points for Philadelphia, which never trailed in posting its second win in three games.

The 76ers shot under 49 percent (36-of-78) from the field but outrebounded the Cavaliers, 50-43, and outscored them in the paint, 42-24.

Shawn Kemp scored 17 points and Wesley Person contributed 15 for Cleveland, which shot 35 percent (29-of-83) en route to its 10th straight road loss.

Iverson, who was 8-of-23 from the field, had four layups, Aaron McKie sank two 3-pointers and Todd MacCulloch scored the final four points in the big second-quarter run that gave the 76ers a 51-31 advantage with 1:02 left.

The Cavaliers shot 19 percent (4-of-21) in the second period as Philadelphia moved out to a 53-35 lead.

"They came out after us tonight," Cleveland coach Randy Wittman said. "They had a lot of high energy and got on us defensively. Because of our struggles offensively, we quit playing at the other end of the court. We dropped our heels and opened the floodgates."

Philadelphia led 73-58 after three quarters. Kukoc scored all seven of his fourth-quarter points during a 19-4 run to start the period. His driving layup with 5:59 to play gave Philadelphia its largest lead at 92-62.

"I tried to play off the other guys," Kukoc said. "I'm used to a lot of different systems. It's not easy to switch in just one game. It's going to take some time to pick up the plays and the different things we do."

The 76ers shot 67 percent (10-of-15) over the final 12 minutes to put away the game. Cleveland made only 29 percent (7-of-24) of its shots in the fourth quarter.
