Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Jason Caffey scored 18 of his 25 points in the first half and grabbed a career high-tying 16 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors handed the Washington Wizards their seventh straight loss, 112-103.

The Warriors have won two in a row following a five-game losing streak and have taken seven of the last nine home meetings with Washington.

The Wizards saw their club-record road losing streak reach 15 games and equaled their longest overall skid of the season, which was set from November 3-16.

"(Damn), we ain't getting wins anywhere," Washington guard Rod Strickland said. "Road, home, it's just been tough, period. We've got to find a way to get through this stretch. I don't know what it is to be honest. We just aren't getting it done."

Billy Owens scored seven points during a 13-0 spurt as Golden State opened a 31-23 lead in the opening minute of the second quarter. Fellow newcomer Larry Hughes had four during an 8-0 burst for a 61-45 cushion late in the first half.

"They've created a lot of excitement to this team," Warriors coach Garry St. Jean said of his two newest players. "They are committed to playing defense. Billy and Larry have added another dimension to our team."

"When I got with these guys, they didn't talk about what happened the first part of this season," Hughes said "I haven't heard anybody talk about that. It's about right now and what we need to do."

Caffey made 12-of-18 shots from the floor in the first half and grabbed 12 rebounds, helping the Warriors shoot 53 percent (25-of-47) while establishing a 14-point halftime cushion.

"I think the guys that we have now are going to present us with more scoring opportunites," Caffey said. "When I go into a pick-and-roll situaton, most guys are jumping him (Hughes) and he's kicking the ball to me. I've got wide-open lanes to the basket."

The Warriors were ahead, 89-79, after 36 minutes and remained the league's only unbeaten team (11-0) when leading after three quarters.

Washington climbed within eight points in the fourth quarter, but Golden State went on a 10-2 spurt to pull away. Caffey, who finished within one point of his season high, closed the run with a dunk for a 108-92 lead with 3:58 remaining.

Former Warrior Mitch Richmond was ejected with 27 seconds left in the first half. He argued that he was fouled on a drive and was hit with two technicals by James Capers.

"It was tough not to have Mitch Richmond out there but we played in spurts and didn't play the game well like we are capable of playing," Wizards interim coach Darrell Walker said. "Like I told the troops, nobody is coming to help us."

Donyell Marshall scored 19 points and Owens added 18 for the Warriors, who shot 49 percent (47-of-96) overall.

Jahidi White had a career-high 23 points and Strickland notched his 16th double-double of the season with 14 and 11 assists for the Wizards, who closed an 0-5 road trip and have not won since February 2 against Minnesota.
