Game Story

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Undisciplined and undermanned, the Golden State Warriors were not about to snap their losing streak in Detroit.

Grant Hill and Jerry Stackhouse scored 22 points apiece in the first half as the Pistons posted their seventh straight home victory against the Warriors, 131-99.

Hill finished with 30 and Stackhouse 29 as high-scoring Detroit obliterated its season best for points. The Pistons have not lost to the Warriors in Detroit since March 19, 1995 and beat Golden State for the 15th time in 18 meetings.

Detroit (27-27) improved to 19-8 at home this season and moved one game ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks into seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons scored 122 in a double-overtime loss at Miami on opening night.

They scored 66 points in the first half -- another season high -- and 65 in the second. The Pistons had 38 points after the first quarter, their most in any quarter since scoring 42 against the Warriors in the opening period on December 16. In the two matchups between the teams this season, Detroit has outscored Golden State in the opening quarter, 80-50.

"This is a good win for us," Pistons coach Alvin Gentry said. "You have to win games like this at home. We don't get a lot of chances to put a team away like this. It's not like we are Portland or the Lakers."

The Warriots, who are without injured emerging star Antawn Jamison, shot just 39 percent (40-of-102) from the field and missed half their 20 free throws. Recently acquired shooting guard Larry Hughes, who is nursing a sprained left ankle, made just 9-of-25 shots and was clearly hampered by the injury.

"It's sore but it is no excuse," Hughes said. "I felt good enough to play and I had a job to do."

The Warriors also refused to guard anybody, allowing the Pistons to shoot 57 percent (48-of-84), including 11-of-22 from 3-point range.

"It was no fun to watch and it was no fun for you guys to watch," Golden State coach Garry St. Jean said. "It was no fun for me to watch. When you don't get off to a good start you have to find a way back."

"We understand that they are in a bit of disarray right now," Stackhouse said.

Golden State initially hung around and was within 14-13 after a 16-footer by Hughes 4:57 into the contest. But Hill buried a 17-footer from the right wing and had a driving layup before Lindsey Hunter had a three-point play to push the lead to eight.

A 10-foot hook shot by Jason Caffey halted Detroit's run but Hill had a layup off a feed from Christian Laettner, a dunk and set up a breakaway by Stackhouse that put the Pistons on top, 27-15.

Golden State never got closer than 10 the rest of the way and trailed by as many 33 points.

Hill was 12-of-17 from the field while Stackhouse made 13-of-13 from the line. Jerome Williams added 13 points and 12 rebounds and John Crotty took advantage of extended garbage time to score 11.

Things went so well for Detroit that center Mikki Moore, who was activated off the injured list for the first time this season prior to the game, played 13 minutes, made all four of his shots, scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.

"I'm very patient, I've proven that since I got here," Moore said. "My physical ability is there but I still have to learn from the veterans."
