Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Chris Webber had 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as the Sacramento Kings closed out a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Grizzlies with a 112-87 victory that snapped a four-game losing streak.

Jason Williams collected 13 points and eight assists and Scot Pollard came off the bench to contribute 10 and 10 rebounds for the Kings, who improved to 11-1 at home on Tuesdays.

With losses by Seattle and Minnesota, Sacramento (32-24) moved into a tie for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.

Othella Harrington scored 20 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 19 and nine rebounds for Vancouver, which failed in a bid to tie its best win total. With 18 victories, the Grizzlies have 26 games to equal the number of wins they had in the 1997-98 season, when they went 19-63.

Vancouver snapped a six-game losing streak to Sacramento with Saturday's 102-90 triumph but tonight fell to just 5-15 in the all-time series.

"I don't care what the Kings were thinking," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said when asked if Sacramento was out for revenge. "All I cared about was going out and getting prepared and trying to win the game, and I thought we did that for a quarter and a half. If that's the only way they can get ready to play is to have somebody kick their (behind) and they turn around and have revenge, then they're not a very good team."

After a competitive first quarter, Sacramento outscored the Grizzlies, 35-16, in the second. Harrington's layup pulled Vancouver to 38-37 with 5:43 left but the Kings went on a 21-8 burst to take a 14-point advantage on Webber's layup with 41 seconds before halftime.

"It was a good win for us and we can use it as a stepping stone," Webber said. "I don't know what we did differently, we just won, we were up 16 at the half the other day so I don't know we just played better at the end of the game I guess. They are not a playoff team so we should beat them. We need to start doing this against teams with better records than us."

Sacramento maintained a double-digit lead thereafter. Vancouver could only close the gap to 11 points, the last time with 7:31 left in the third as Harrington's hook shot made it 70-59. However, Webber responded with a jumper seven seconds later and a driving dunk with 6:38 to go in the quarter.

"They gave us a chance to come back, but we played a little lazy and selfish tonight," said Vancouver guard Mike Bibby, who had 17 points and 12 assists. "We got to take care of the ball a little better. They're a good team, but I think we can play with anybody when we play all four quarters."

Nick Anderson and Jon Barry each chipped in 13 points and Corliss Williamson collected 11 for Sacramento, which shot 51 percent (45-of-89) from the field, including 8-of-17 from 3-point range. The Kings took advantage 21 turnovers by Vancouver, scoring 30 points.

Michael Dickerson scored 15 points and Grant Long grabbed 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who shot 49 percent (36-of-74) overall but only 4-of-12 from beyond the arc. They were outscored, 52-34, in the paint.

"Obviously we knew that they would be assed up for this game after the way we played them in Vancouver, and as expected they came out and did what they needed to do," Long said.
