Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell scored 19 points and dished out 12 assists and Ray Allen added 18 points as the Milwaukee Bucks remained in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 92-73 win over the Chicago Bulls.

Glenn Robinson contributed 14 points for Milwaukee, which stormed out to a 28-point lead after three quarters and cruised to its fourth win in five games. The Bucks remained two games behind the eighth-place Orlando Magic with eight games to play.

"We have to come out totally focused on what we have to do," Milwaukee forward Darvin Ham said. "We can't be concerned about what the other teams are doing."

Elton Brand scored 18 points and fellow rookie Ron Artest added 16 as Chicago suffered its 13th loss in 15 games and set a franchise record for most losses in a season with 59.

"I've been on both sides of the coin, playing dominating basketball and losing basketball," Chicago guard Randy Brown said. "Throughout the season though, we haven't quit. We just keep going as a team. It seems like yesterday we were 72-10."

The Bucks led 24-18 at the end of the first quarter, but opened up a 12-point lead as Allen scored seven in a 13-4 surge. Vinny Del Negro sank 1-of-2 free throws to cap the run with 5:06 remaining to put Milwaukee ahead, 37-25.

Milwaukee closed the first half on a 10-2 run as Cassell scored the first six and Robinson had the last four, including a 14-foot shot with two-tenths of a second left to give the Bucks a 51-33 advantage.

The Bulls shot 30 percent (12-of-40) in the first half, including 27 percent (6-of-22) in the second quarter.

Allen, Cassell and Robinson scored four points apiece in a 12-2 third-quarter run as the Bucks opened up their largest lead at 73-43 with just under three minutes to play. Chicago cut the Bucks' lead to 87-72 with 2:47 left in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer by Matt Maloney, but could not get any closer.

"I was disappointed in our fourth quarter, but other than that I thought we played a good ballgame," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "All we have to do is keep on winning because we don't have control over our own destiny."

Tim Thomas scored 13 points off the bench for the Bucks, who shot 44 percent (37-of-83), including 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Milwaukee limited the Bulls to 35 percent (24-of-67) from the field and 2-of-10 from behind the arc.
