Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic again did not miss Grant Hill as Tracy McGrady returned from a one-game suspension and collected 31 points and four steals in a 110-99 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

With Hill and McGrady sidelined, Orlando edged Atlanta on Saturday, 107-104. Hill remains out with a sore left ankle, but McGrady came back with a vengeance, making 11-of-21 shots from the field and 8-of-9 free throws in 42 minutes.

Orlando executed a game plan which included running the floor until Seattle could not. And it worked.

"We saw them getting a little bit tired, and we kept running and just took over the game." McGrady said.

The Magic shot just 30 percent (15-of-50) in the first half and trailed at the break, 45-40.

The trend ended as Orlando started the third quarter with a 16-5 run. John Amaechi scored nine points during the burst, which gave the Magic a 56-50 lead.

Seattle battled back and tied it at 60-60 on Rashard Lewis' layup with 4:20 to go in the period. He finished with 28 points for the Sonics, who had no answer for Michael Doleac in the fourth quarter.

"I thought Mike was just terrific," said Magic coach Doc Rivers. "I think the difference this year and last year is that we are a better half-court basketball team. But we were running and you could clearly see with your eyes Seattle had just stopped running."

Doleac scored eight points in the first five minutes of the fourth period and had 12 of his 17 in the final quarter, all but sealing Orlando's second straight victory.

Point guard Gary Payton recorded his third straight double-double with 23 points and 10 assists for Seattle after posting a triple double in the season opener at Vancouver. The Sonics have lost three of four to start the season, including two in a row on the road.

"We know they have a lot of aggressive athletes. They've been pressing and trapping and there were things we were vulnerable to, and it showed," Seattle coach Paul Westphal said.

This was the opener of a five-game East Coast road trip for the Sonics, who shot just under 45 percent (40-of-89) and committed 25 turnovers.

Seattle got only seven points and 10 rebounds from Patrick Ewing, while Amaechi finished with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and seven boards.

Orlando went without a field goal for the final 3:37 of the second quarter as the Sonics used a 10-2 spurt to close the first half and open the second. McGrady's follow shot with 11:19 left in the third period ended the run.

The Magic turned it up after halftime, shooting 61 percent (27-of-44) and scoring 70 points. Darrell Armstrong also netted 20 points, adding seven assists and five rebounds, while rookie Mike Miller chipped in 10 points and six boards.

Vin Baker had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Shammond Williams scored 10 off the bench for the Sonics.
