Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Raptors used a triple-double by Charles Oakley to bully a young Chicago Bulls team and improve its win streak to four games with a 98-75 victory.

Oakley posted his third career triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. His first two came while wearing a Bulls uniform during the 1986-87 campaign, his second year in the league.

"I didn't know about it until I heard the guys on the bench talking about it," Oakley said. "I didn't plan it, I just try to go out and play each night. I'm 36 years old and I just wanted to get out and win this game."

"It was great to see him get the triple-double," said teammate Vince Carter. "He's our emotional leader and goes out and gets it done for us each night. I'm the one that told Lenny (Raptors coach Lenny Wilkens) that Oak was close to getting the triple and that's why he left him in."

Vince Carter scored 26 points and Antonio Davis tied a season-high 24 points and set a new mark with 12 rebounds for the Raptors, who used a 19-6 run in the fourth period to seal the win.

After losing its first three games, Toronto has come together on both ends of the floor. The Raptors have held their last three opponents under 40 percent shooting, winning those contests by a combined 80 points.

Toronto blew a 12 point-lead in the third quarter as Chicago rallied behind Ron Mercer's 11 points in the period. Mercer finished with 17 points.

Chicago had several chances to tie the game but Carter took over with 14 points in the period, fueling a 9-2 burst and helping Toronto take a 64-56 advantage into the final 12 minutes.

The Bulls spent much of the game digging out of a hole. They trailed 37-24 in the second quarter but used a 7-0 spurt to close to 40-37 at halftime.

Ron Artest scored 18 of his season-high 23 points in the first half but Elton Brand was limited eight for the Bulls, who were held to their lowest total of the season. Chicago gave up 18 points on 16 turnovers.

"Vince Carter was too much and they were all playing well," said Brand. "Experience is important, but if we're going to compete, we can not use that excuse in this league. They had back-to-back games and some of those guys are 35 or 36 years old and they come out to play."

"They controlled Elton's game offensively," Bulls coach Tim Floyd said. "Teams are really packing it in on him. Our offense is not functioning. We have to execute."

Despite committing 10 turnovers in the first half, Toronto was able to regain control with just two in the second half.

"We just took our time and tried to take the shots we wanted," Carter said. "We knew they would make runs and would play as a team with not much to lose. Our plan was not to let them get the ball to Elton, if we did, we knew we had to contain him."
