Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Antawn Jamison scored 18 points and keyed a first-quarter surge as the Golden State Warriors improved to .500 at home with a 114-93 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jamison scored six points in a 10-0 run that erased a one-point deficit and gave Golden State a 14-5 lead with 6:34 left in the first quarter. His three-point play with 4:17 left in the period made it 23-11 and Golden State's lead never dipped below 10 points thereafter.

"This is the type of team we can beat," Jamison said. "It's frustrating when you know you can compete every night and you're just not doing it. But tonight a lot of guys led by example. They were unselfish, they played defense and looked for the open man. We just have to continue with this and not get too comfortable. We can start going in the right direction."

Larry Hughes added 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Chris Mills had 17 points and seven rebounds for Golden State, which improved to 3-3 at home and won for just the fourth time this season.

"It just jelled tonight," Warriors coach Dave Cowens said. "We ran our break really well. We passed the ball, guys made shots, and we got extra effort. Everything went our way. It was just one of those games. It was a welcomed event."

Kevin Garnett collected 22 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota but did not get much help from his fellow starters, who combined for just 20 points. The Timberwolves went 0-2 on their two-city California trip after winning four in a row.

"Besides Kevin, no one else really showed up and you can't do it all by yourself, we just have to try and bounce back from this loss," said Minnesota forward Wally Sczerbiak, who had seven points and six rebounds. "I think we came out flat, we didn't come out with a lot of energy, and we didn't come out with the aggressive that we should have."

After Garnett hit a 12-foot jumper with 3:10 left in the second quarter to make it 47-37, Golden State closed the half with a 9-2 spurt and scored the first 11 points of the third quarter. Hughes made one of two free throws to give the Warriors a 67-39 advantage with 7:45 left in the period.

Overall, the Timberwolves were held scoreless for 6:53 from the end of the second quarter to the 7:21 mark of the third.

The 21-point victory was Golden State's largest of the season and its biggest since defeating the Los Angeles Clippers, 107-76, on February 1.

Mookie Blaylock had 14 points and nine assists for the Warriors, who shot 57 percent (43-for-75) from the field.

"(The Warriors) played well and played more aggressively than we did," Timberwolves Flip Saunders said. "I told our team going in they were definitely not a 4-10 team. They've played a lot of close games. They've had a tough schedule."

Sam Mitchell contributed 11 points for Minnesota, which shot just 39 percent (34-for-88).
