Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Cleveland's balanced offense came to haunt them tonight as virtually every player was equally bad.

The Boston Celtics took full advantage of a franchise-low four-point second quarter by the Cavaliers and used a 23-0 run spanning the middle two periods to record their first win here in more than five years, 87-72.

Cleveland entered the game on top of the Central Division due in large part to an offense that boasted seven players averaging between 9.3 and 13.0 points per game and the third-best shooting percentage (.478) in the NBA.

But after a fine opening 12 minutes, the Cavaliers collapsed in the second quarter, hitting just 2-of-19 shots while failing to score a point over the final 6:43.

The Celtics tallied the final 18 points of the second quarter and outscored Cleveland 29-4 in the session to forge a 49-31 halftime lead that was never threatened after intermission.

Antoine Walker scored 28 points and Paul Pierce added 20 for Boston, which posted its first road win of the season and recorded its first win in Clevland since April 4, 1995.

Andre Miller collected 12 points and 11 assists and Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 12 and nine rebounds for Cleveland, which lost its first game this season at Gund Arena after six victories.

The Los Angeles Clippers hold the record for fewest points in a quarter with three against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 14, 1999.
