Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Lamar Odom scored 17 points as the Los Clippers spoiled Grant Hill's return with a 92-80 victory over the Orlando Magic.

"We've been waiting to come out like this," Odom said. "We had the day off yesterday and we came out focused. Everyone wanted this game. We have to play like this, keep winning. We have to keep learing how to win, that's our biggest thing.

Los Angeles used a 25-4 scoring spree that started midway through the third quarter to take the lead for good. Eric Piatkowski hit a 26-footer from the left baseline that gave the Clippers their biggest lead, 86-66, with 5:20 to play. He finished with 13 points and made 2-of-3 shots from behind the arc.

Orlando climbed within 11 points with just over three minutes to play, but rookie Darius Miles dunked to help put the game out of reach for Los Angeles.

Playing for the first time since November 3, Hill led all scorers with 19 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot in 25 minutes.

"It's good to be back," Hill said. "Would've been nice if we'd won, but all in all it feels good to be back there. I felt good at times and I felt bad at times, but all in all it felt good to be back."

Five Clippers scored in double figures, including two reserves.

"This was huge," Clippers reserve forward Sean Rooks said. "Obviously I don't want to act like we just won the national championship or anything, but we were in desperate need, the morale of the team was down. But to suck it up against an athletic team like Orlando was a big win."

Jeff McInnis scored 14 points and Miles had 13 off the bench to help the Clippers improve to 5-7 at home. McInnis found Miles for a thundering alley-oop dunk with 4:50 to play in the third quarter, forging a 58-58 tie.

The Magic missed it last 11 shots in the third quarter and were just 14-of-41 in the second half. They scored only 11 points in the final quarter and had a four-game winning streak snapped in the opener of a four-game road trip.

"There was a lack of a sense of urgency," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "We thought we were going to win the game no matter what the entire game. You can't do that. You have to play with an edge. We didn't do that. I really felt we deserved to lose the game."

Orlando shot 40 percent (34-of-85) from the field. McGrady was just 7-of-23 for 14 points.

"We kind of thought we could turn it on when we want to," Hill added. "But we're not that kind of team. We have to bring it every minute every second. hopefully it will be a learing lesson for us."

The Clippers had lost the previous four meetings in the series. But this young Los Angeles team has been playing with new life and energy.

"I love them," Rivers added. "Heck, we gave the Clippers all of them all. I love them like my own, I just don't want them to play well against us anymore."
