Game Story

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- On the eve of his wedding, Jerry Stackhouse gave his team the gift he's been giving all season.

Stackhouse scored 25 points to push thes Detroit Pistons to a 106-93 victory over the pesky Chicago Bulls.

The Pistons scored the game's final five points to hand the Bulls their fifth straight loss and 24th in 27 games this season.

With 57.5 seconds left, Stackhouse dropped in a pair of free throws to give Detroit a 103-93 advantage. He also chipped in eight assists.

Chicago had climbed within 93-89 on Elton Brand's runner in the lane with 3:32 to go.

But Joe Smith's jumper started a 9-0 run that was capped by Chucky Atkins' 3-pointer and pushed the lead back to double digits. Atkins finished with 22 points.

Ron Mercer led all scorers with 29 points and Brand added 21 for the Bulls, who have lost their last five trips to Detroit. Fred Hoiberg contributed 15 off the bench for Chicago.

With 10:01 left in the third quarter, Mercer's jumper from the corner gave the Bulls their first lead of the game, 52-51. After Mercer tied it at 56-56 with a baseline jumper, Detroit answered with an 18-6 run that was capped by a basket by Stackhouse and gave the Pistons a 13-point cushion with 3:19 to play in the period.

Stackhouse, who is averaging 23 shots a game, was 6-of-22 from the field.

Chicago went scoreless for the game's first 4:56, finally getting on the board when Michael Ruffin split two foul shots. The Bulls did not record their first field goal until the 6:26 mark of the opening period.

The Pistons jumped to a 28-11 lead after rookie Marcus Fizer's turnover led to Michael Curry's dunk.

Chicago climbed within 45-43 late in the second quarter before Stackhouse nailed his second 3-pointer of the game. But Detroit was able to take a 49-46 lead into intermission.
