Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Rookie center Marc Jackson had 13 points, 13 rebounds and keyed a decisive fourth-quarter run as the Golden State Warriors handed the Houston Rockets their fourth straight loss, 95-87.

With the Warriors clinging to a 78-76 lead and 8:48 to play, Jackson followed Larry Hughes' follow shot with a layup, a 17-footer and two free throws, opening an 85-76 cushion with 6:39 remaining. The slumping Rockets did not seriously challenge thereafter.

Antawn Jamison scored 26 points and backcourt mates Larry Hughes and Mookie Blaylock took advantage of the absence of injured Houston point guard Steve Francis, combining for 37 points and 11 assists.

"It's always good when we win," Jamison said. "It seems we're always in position to win, but tonight we finished it. Anytime you don't have Francis and Cuttino (Mobley) out there, you have to take advantage, and we did that tonight."

Moochie Norris matched a career high with 19 points, leading four players in double figures for the Rockets, whose last win came at Golden State on December 14.

"I played good, but I'd rather play terrible and get the win," Norris said. "It doesn't feel to play great when you lose. It felt good to play a lot of minutes, but it would have felt a lot better if we had won the game, which is the most important thing."

Francis is listed as day-to-day with a sprained ankle and Mobley sat out with a hyperextended left elbow.

Hughes finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Blaylock added 15 points, nine boards and four assists as the Warriors posted their second win in three games after a five-game losing streak that included the 98-95 setback to Houston.

"Christmas is sometime soon, so it's good to get the win. For us, a win is always special and hard to come by," Golden State coach Dave Cowens said.

The game featured nine lead changes and 13 ties but turned in Golden State's direction for good when Jackson, a 6-10, 270-pounder out of Temple, scored half of his four baskets during the fourth-quarter run. Jackson completed his fifth straight double-double and matched a season best in rebounds.

Vonteego Cummings scored 13 points off the bench for Golden State, which shot 44 percent (35-of-79) and yielded just seven points off turnovers. The Warriors scored 23 points off Houston giveaways.

Maurice Taylor had his second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Hakeem Olajuwon added 15 points for the Rockets, who shot 44 percent (37-of-84) and held a 44-43 rebounding edge.

"When I see us at .500, I see that we're underachievers," Taylor said of the 13-13 Rockets. "I feel like we should have a better record than that right now, but we got off to such a good start and we had some momentum going into the homestand. But injuries set us back a little bit."

The Warriors had lost their previous seven road contests and the Rockets have dropped four straight at the Compaq Center.

"It's good to come in here on the road and win, especially since we don't do it as much on the road," Hughes said. "This was definitely a situation where we needed a win and we got it."
