Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell had 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as the Milwaukee Bucks cruised to their eighth straight home win and 12th consecutive Bradley Center triumph over the Dallas Mavericks, 102-94.

The Bucks have never lost to the Mavericks at the Bradley Center, which opened on October 1, 1988. Dallas' last road win against Milwaukee came at the Mecca on December 13, 1987.

Glenn Robinson scored 20 points and Ray Allen and Tim Thomas added 18 apiece for the Bucks, who have not lost at home to anyone since a 104-96 setback to Phoenix here on December 7.

"I think we played a very solid basketball game tonight," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "We had a number of guys play well tonight in a lot of different areas. I think it may be our best home win, maybe our best win of the year."

Milwaukee has won eight of nine meetings overall against the Mavericks, who posted a season-opening 97-93 home triumph over the Bucks on October 31.

"It was a big win for us tonight," Robinson said. "They hurt us in the opener, we wanted to come out and play well tonight. We needed to maintain focus to win tonight and we did that. We kept that focus for four quarters and beat a good basketball team."

Michael Finley scored 30 points for Dallas, which had a season-high seven-game road winning streak snapped in its house of horrors.

Coming off Wednesday's rousing 106-86 win at Minnesota, the Mavericks were not able to match the Bucks' energy throughout the contest.

"We were fatigued a bit but I'm proud of our guys," Dallas coach Donn Nelson said. "They gave us everything they had. My hat's off to George Karl. Their defensive game plan was extraordinary. They contested every shot and seemed prepared for all of our offensive sets."

Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Christian Laettner added 16 and 12 for the Mavs, who shot 42 percent (37-of-89) and lost the battle on the boards, 47-40.

Dallas was without starting point guard Steve Nash, who was stricken with the flu.

"Obviously we missed Steve tonight," Nelson said. "He's a big part of our offense."

The Bucks shot 46 percent (36-of-78) and outscored Dallas, 24-17, from the line.

Nowitzki's nine-footer forged a 29-29 tie with 1:04 left in the first quarter before the Bucks took the lead for good.

Allen drilled a 28-footer, Thomas hit two free throws and Lindsey Hunter knocked down a nine-footer to give Milwaukee a 36-29 advantage entering the second quarter.

Hunter opened the second half with a layup and Ervin Johnson added two free throws to cap the 11-0 run as the Bucks opened a 40-29 cushion with 9:52 left in the first half.

The Mavs did not seriously challenge again until the fourth quarter when Finley made a free throw and three straight baskets to pull Dallas within 93-90 with 3:09 to play.

But Robinson calmly sank a 14-footer, Thomas connected on a 3-pointer and Cassell added a layup and two free throws to make it 102-90 with 1:14 left.

"Glenn's shot took the air out of them," Cassell said. "We've matured a lot over the last few seasons. We understand the importance of every possession now. We beat them because we did the little things well. I'm proud of the team tonight, we played well."

"We had an answer for every challenge they gave us," Robinson added. "I tried to pick up my game tonight and had a nice game."
