Game Story

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Jalen Rose scored 20 points and Jermaine O'Neal posted his 20th double-double of the season as the Indiana Pacers pulled away late for their eighth straight home win over the Los Angeles Clippers, 89-74.

Los Angeles has lost 14 of the last 15 meetings with the Pacers overall and has not won in Indiana since January 8, 1992, when only one current member of the young Clippers -- nine-year veteran Derek Strong -- was in the NBA.

Austin Croshere's layup gave Indiana a 66-61 lead entering the fourth quarter and sparked the decisive run. O'Neal drilled a 15-footer, Croshere made two free throws after being hacked on a flagrant foul by Los Angeles center Sean Rooks and Rose converted a three-point play as Indiana extended the advantage to 73-61 with 10:37 to play.

"You look up at the clock and you're down and it's the fourth quarter, you know you gotta make a run," O'Neal said. "We've been doing a pretty good job of buckling down and holding teams to poor percentages, shooting-wise."

O'Neal finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds as did backup forward Al Harrington, helping the Pacers to a lopsided 37-9 advantage in points off the bench.

"I try to come in and make things happen and play smart," Harrington said. "You cannot make things happen by being offensive-minded and not seeing the whole floor."

Indiana improved to 13-4 against teams with sub-.500 records.

Lamar Odom had 22 points and 12 rebounds and rookie Darius Miles added 19 and 13 for Los Angeles, which has lost the first three games on its four-game road trip.

"In the fourth quarter, they came out on a run, but they were beating us the whole game, so it's not like that was the turning point," Odom said. "We're learning every game. We know we're a fun team to watch and if we execute, play `D' and keep playing hard, we'll start seeing results."

Jeff McInnis scored 14 points and handed out six assists for Los Angeles, which went more than seven minutes without a basket until Odom's layup with 7:02 to play pulled it within 75-65.

"The Clippers are a team that will jump up and sting you if you don't play defense," Rose said. "They got some athletic bodies, some guys that will run you up and down the court."

Harrington answered with an 18-footer and Croshere knocked down two more from the line as the Pacers opened a 14-point cushion with 6:14 remaining.

Croshere scored 13 points and Reggie Miller added 11 for Indiana, which shot 41 percent (33-of-81) and held a 53-43 advantage on the boards. The Pacers scored 22 points off 17 Los Angeles turnovers.

Miles hit back-to-back jumpers and followed a basket by Odom with one of his own as the Clippers opened a 13-6 lead with 6:22 remaining in the first quarter. Derrick McKey came off the bench and shot the Pacers right back into it, making two free throws and a 3-pointer before Miller's 17-footer forged a 15-15 tie.

Croshere's dunk snapped a 19-19 deadlock with 16 seconds left in the first quarter and the Pacers did not trail thereafter.

Los Angeles shaved the deficit to two points on six separate occasions in the second and third quarters but could not get even, dropping to 4-15 on the road.

"We know we got talent," Miles said. "We just need to play the season out and see what happens. If we do what we normally do, then on any given night anyone can step up for us and carry the team."
