Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Ray Allen scored 20 points and hit two key free throws with 29 seconds left as the Milwaukee Bucks won their fourth straight game, 101-95 over the Washington Wizards.

The Bucks led by 15 points entering the fourth quarter, only to allow the Wizards to crawl within 97-93 on Juwan Howard's three-point play with 1:38 remaining.

After a miss by Glenn Robinson, Washington had a chance to get even closer, but Richardon Hamilton misfired on a 19-foot jumper and Chris Whitney's 3-pointer from the right side would not fall.

Allen was perfect from the line and Sam Cassell added two more foul shots five seconds later to seal the victory.

"We have some good scorers on this team," Allen said. "When we play well, play together and pass the ball, everybody is going to get a piece of the pie. It's going to make us a whole lot better in the second half of the season than how we started at the beginning of the season."

Robinson led the Bucks with 22 points and Lindsey Hunter also added 20.

"That's the story of their (the Wizards) season. Teams get up on them early and they fight back, especially in this arena," Cassell said. "We got up 15 points with five minutes to go and they made the game turn ugly. We had to turn it back on again, and luckily it was enough to win the game just like the last time we played them."

Howard scored 27 points, Hamilton 22 and Whitney 17 for Washington, which has dropped seven straight for the second time this season. The Wizards lost a season-high nine in a row from November 28-December 15.

"I thought defensively we created some situations, about five or six there in the second half where they were right down to the wire and took contested jumpers while the clock was running down and knocked them down," said Washington coach Leonard Hamilton.

The Wizards were basically out of this one by halftime, if not earlier. A three-point play by Tim Thomas followed by Jason Caffey's short jumper gave Milwaukee a 33-27 lead with 9:41 to play in the second quarter and Washington never got closer than four points thereafter.

Robinson's two free throws pushed the Bucks' advantage to nine points with 2:43 to go before halftime and Allen scored for a 51-41 advantage moments before the break.

Milwaukee scored the first seven points after halftime on Robinson's jumper, Allen's 3-pointer and another bucket by Robinson to take a 58-43 lead and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the rest of the third period.

Cassell and Thomas contributed 14 points apiece for Milwaukee, which shot 47 percent (38-of-81), including 10-of-17 from beyond the arc. Robinson was 10-of-18 from the field and Hunter went 6-of-8 from 3-point range.

The Wizards, behind Michael Smith's 14 rebounds, held a 42-41 advantage on the boards but shot only 39 percent (30-of-77) and committed 14 turnovers that led to 16 points for the Bucks.

"We come back in the fourth quarter but it is too late," said Smith. "We can't keep doing this, we came back but it is not enough."

Hamilton made all 14 of his free throw attempts for the Wizards, something that bothered Milwaukee coach George Karl.

"Richard Hamilton hits 14 free throws; that is so much respect," Karl said of what he perceived to be poor officiating. "Glenn Robinson gets hit so much and it doesn't get called."

Milwaukee has won three of the four meetings between the teams this season.
