Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Eddie Jones scored 26 points as the Miami Heat snapped a four-game road losing streak with a 97-86 victory over the Vancouver Grizzlies, who have dropped three in a row.

"It was much needed," Jones said. "We've been struggling on the road and no one was playing well, so it was good tonight to get a win and go to L.A."

Miami never trailed and held an 85-71 lead with just over four minutes to go. But the Heat had to fight off a rally by the Grizzlies, which used a 10-4 burst to close to 89-81 with under two minutes to play.

Anthony Mason answered with a layup and Vancouver got no closer.

Mason had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his 20th double-double of the season, and Hardaway added 14 points for Miami, which shot 47 percent (36-of-76) from the field en route to the teams ninth win against the West.

Bryant Reeves scored 21 points and Othella Harrington added 15 for the Grizzlies, who never overcame their slow start and fell to 2-7 all-time against the Heat.

"We came out with no energy again." Vancouver coach Sidney Lowe said. "We got down early in the ballgame and we were fighting from there. In the first half, I told the guys it was like men out there playing some boys. They were pushing us around, they were holding, they were being active and they were being physical. We just didn't respond to it."

Vancouver missed its first eight shots, went 4-of-18 in the first quarter and fell behind 22-12. In the first half, the Grizzlies tied a season low with 34 points.

The Grizzlies have won once in their their last six games.

"We knew what kind of team they were," Abdur-Rahim said, who shot 5-for-10 for 11 points. "We just didn't play with them, or maybe we just didn't want to. To play with a team like that, you've got to match them. We have to be ready to do things we don't usually do. As a team we have to be willing to play harder."

Vancouver was outscored in all quarters except the third when they rebounded to out shine the Heat 27-20 during a 16-5 run to start the half.

The Grizzlies cut the lead to 55-50 with 7:05 to play on Mike Bibby's 26-foot 3-pointer. They matched that deficit four minutes later on Reeve's point after, but would get no closer the remainder of the game.

"If we compete on some nights and not on other nights (and) if we continue this," Abdur-Rahim continued, "We will always be a bad team. I don't think were conscious enough as a team to learn from this, from what they were trying to do. We have to work hard as a team regardless if we have to work hard every night. We have to be willing to lay it on the line."

Miami shot 45 percent (22-for-48) in the first half. Hardaway made a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds to play to give the Heat a 50-34 lead at the break.
