Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points and nine rebounds and Harold Eisley added 20 and eight assists as the Dallas Mavericks contnued their mastery over the Golden State Warriors with a 101-95 victory.

Nowitzki made just 7-of-17 shots but went 6-of-6 from the line in the fourth quarter to help seal Dallas' seventh straight win over Golden State.

"I think it's going great so far," Nowitzki said. "We are right there where we want to be in the playoff hunt. We had a couple of tough losses, but we've had some great wins. We can't have any letdowns."

Christian Laettner and reserve Hubert Davis scored 15 points each for the Mavericks, who shot 45 percent (38-of-85) and won for the sixth time in eight games.

"If this was a year ago, I don't think we would be sitting here with the win," said Dallas interim coach Donnie Nelson. "There's no question about that. I think we're just better around Mike (Finley) and he can afford to have an off game here and there and we can keep the winning tradition going."

Bob Sura scored 28 points and rookie Marc Jackson added 27 and 12 rebounds for Golden State, which suffered its fourth straight loss. The Warriors shot 45 percent (37-of-82) and fell to 5-18 on the road.

"I just went out there and played my game," Jackson said. "I was fortunate enough that my injury wasn't that bad. I was able to play today and that meant a lot to me. I'm not the kind of player that can sit out and watch a game."

Dallas used just eight players, but got production from its bench as Davis connected on 3-of-4 3-pointers and Shawn Bradley recorded 10 points and eight rebounds. The Mavs shot 50 percent (9-of-18) from behind the arc, with Eisley sinking 4-of-8.

Jackson scored 16 points, making 7-of-9 shots, in the first half when the Warriors held a 52-50 edge.

Golden State took its biggest lead with 9:11 left in the third quarter when Sura hit a 3-pointer to make it 61-56. Sura was 5-of-8 from long range and his 3-pointer with 3:28 left in the period gave the Warriors their final lead, 68-67.

With 3:07 left in the fourth, Laettner sank two free throws to give Dallas a 69-68 edge, triggering a 7-0 burst. After Davis hit a pair of jumpers, Jackson received a technical foul and Nowitzki made the ensuing free throw for a 74-68 advantage.

The Mavs opened the fourth with a 12-4 surge, pushing the lead to 86-74 when Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer with just under eight minutes to go. A 13-footer by Bradley gave Dallas its biggest lead, 99-79, with 4:49 remaining.

After Bradley's basket, the crowd of 18,187 began chanting "Chalupa," because fans in attendance receive a free one at Taco Bell when the Mavs score at least 100 points.

But Dallas missed its next six shots and the Warriors closed within 99-91 when Jackson completed a three-point play with 85 seconds left. Nowitzki hit two free throws 17 seconds later to end the Mavs' drought, earning Dallas fans their free food.

"We were struggling both offensively and defensively throughout the entire game," Davis said. "We started moving the ball and getting some easy shots and fortunately they started going in for us. We can learn from this win. We were up by 20 and they came back again and we almost got burned. We didn't play our best basketball and we won the game. It is good to win games."
