Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Steve Francis had 35 points and 10 rebounds as the Houston Rockets handed the Cleveland Cavaliers their 10th straight loss, 92-80.

Francis scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, came within one of a career high and knocked down six 3-pointers to match a career best.

"I thought it all came within the confines of the game," Francis said. "I got open looks and I did a good job of knocking them down."

Houston took a four-point lead into the final period, but Francis made two free throws to cap a 12-2 run and give the Rockets a 79-63 cushion with 5:36 to play.

Francis and Cuttino Mobley combined for 61 points as Houston completed its fifth season sweep of an Eastern Conference team.

"I think we have the confidence of our team for us to score." Mobley said. "We all have our roles to play and it's Steve and my job to score."

After Francis stole the ball from Texas native Chris Mihm, he soared over defenders for a dunk, smacked the backboard with both hands before landing and drew a technical.

Kelvin Cato found Mobley on the break for a wide-open 3-pointer that started an 8-0 run. Francis also hit from long range and, after a Cleveland timeout, converted a three-point play after he picking Chris Gatling's pocket to open a 75-61 lead with 7:16 to play.

"One play, Cato got the rebound and immediately threw it out to me for an open three," Mobley said. "That's the way our team is."

Cleveland got as close as 12 points on Cedric Henderson's 18-footer with 3:38 left, but Francis scored six straight points, including a 3-pointer with 2:44 to go that gave the Rockets their largest lead at 87-69.

Cleveland scored 11 points over the final 3:38 minutes, including the final six by Andre Moller, to make the score respectable.

This is the Cavs' longest consecutive losing streak since the 1990-91 season, when they lost 11 in a row from December 21-January 12.

"We've got to try and find a way to break this streak," Miller said. "In the fourth quarter, we couldn't make our shots and they hit their looks. It's extremely frustrating for us right now."

Miller scored 29 points to lead the Cavs, who also have lost six in a row and 10 of their last 11 on the road. They are 1-8 away from home against Western Conference foes.

Mobley was the only other player in double figures for Houston with 26 points. The Rockets improved to an astounding 11-0 against the Central Division this season. They are the only team in the league to be undefeated against any division.

"They're so quick around the perimieter and it's hard for us to guard quick guys like that. We really couldn't control Cuttino and Steve," Gatling said. "They started moving the ball and it was hard to contest their open shots. When they had open shots, they hit them."

The Rockets have won five of their last six and are 16-4 against the East this season.

Francis and Mobley combined to make 20-of-38 shots from the field, but the rest of the team shot just 12-of-45.

"We can't make excuses," Gatling said. "It's frustrating for both the players and coaches. We're trying different lineups, but it's effort more than anything else. We must keep our energy up and something good will come out of this."
