Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Austin Croshere hit two foul shots with 1.9 seconds remaining as the Indiana Pacers edged the Cleveland Cavaliers, 92-90, for their third straight victory.

With the Pacers running down the clock, Jalen Rose missed a jumper from the right corner. But Croshere grabbed the rebound and was fouled by Chris Gatling while attempting a follow shot. The free throws were the only points in the fourth quarter for Croshere, who finished with nine.

"I never leave a gym without making 10 free throws in a row, so I was saying to myself, `Look, you made your 10 in a row this morning, all you got to do is make two in a row,'" Croshere said. "It's just confidence doing the same thing over and over."

After calling a timeout to get the ball at midcourt, the Cavaliers were unable to get off a shot. Lamond Murray had the ball knocked away by two defenders at the top of the key.

"It was a set-up play and whoever got open took the shot," Murray said. "I came off a back pick and got slapped on the arm, but if I had got it up I felt I could have made it. I was the last option on the play."

"We got lucky," Indiana coach Isiah Thomas said. "(Clarence) Weatherspoon came off and he was wide open and the Cavs couldn't find him. I thought Derrick McKey did a good job in swarming the basketball to take away the passer's vision, then he was able to get back and get his hands on Murray's shot."

Indiana opened a two-game lead over Boston for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot, but has a four-game edge in the loss column.

The struggling Cavaliers lost for the 12th time in 13 games and fell for the first time this season when leading after three quarters.

Playing for the first time since Sunday's emotional victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pacers appeared sluggish for most of the contest and trailed, 64-62, entering the final period.

But Reggie Miller scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair from the line to give the Pacers a 90-86 lead with 1:42 left. Cleveland tied it on a pair of short jumpers by Andre Miller, the second with 29 seconds to go.

"We had a great week of practice and the guys were committed to not losing their momentum after the Lakers game," Miller said. "We had to execute and we did the right things tonight."

Jim Jackson scored 23 points for the Cavs, while Weatherspoon added 16.

"It was my best night as a Cav but we didn't win the game and that is more important," Jackson said. "Tonight, the court was open for me. You get into a rhythm and once I got it going, it gave us another threat."

Jermaine O'Neal, Travis Best and Rose had 15 points apiece for the Pacers.

Neither team led by more than five points in a contest that featured 26 lead changes and 15 times. Cleveland took its last lead, 81-80, on a driving layup by Bimbo Coles with 5:11 left.

Miller and Rose drilled 3-pointers, sandwiched around Wetherspoon's layup, to give the Pacers an 88-83 lead with 2:47 left.

"It was one of our better efforts at both ends of the floor," Cleveland coach Randy Wittman said. "I can't be displeased. We were one rebound away from winning it or putting it into overtime. It was as good a ball movement offensively as we've had. The ball didn't stop. We made plays and found open guys."

Indiana shot 44 percent (38-of-87) from the field, committed nine turnovers and made 5-of-16 3-pointers. Cleveland attempted just one 3-pointer, a miss by Coles.

The Cavs suffered their fifth straight home loss to Indiana and have not beaten the Pacers at Gund Arena since March 18, 1998.
