Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Tim Duncan's 200th career double-double was trouble for the Phoenix Suns.

Duncan collected 25 points and 10 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs bounced back with a 91-71 victory over the Phoenix Suns, who were held to their lowest total of the season.

Duncan made 11-of-22 shots and added a pair of blocks as he reached a milestone in games with double figures in points and rebounds. He has played 263 games in three-plus seasons and has the most double-doubles of any NBA player during that span.

"You have to be consistent every night. That is what I'm built on," Duncan said. "If I don't do it, I will go crazy. I need to do it for our team and give our team a chance to win."

He got some help from fellow "Twin Tower" David Robinson, who also had a double-double with 17 points, 11 boards and four blocked shots.

"We need David playing like this every night," Duncan said. "He hops up and down and really affects their shots. He makes me a better player."

Together, the 7-footers smothered the Suns, who shot just 32 percent (27-of-84). Phoenix's previous low total came in an 82-73 loss at Minnesota on January 23.

The Spurs rebounded from a home loss to Portland in which they blew a 15-point lead and won for the 15th time in 19 games.

San Antonio also got a strong game from point guard Terry Porter, who had 13 points and nine assists while helping harass Phoenix All-Star guard Jason Kidd into 3-of-17 shooting. But Porter said he had a lot of help.

"I was on him a little bit," Porter said. "As the game went on, Antonio (Daniels) took him a little bit and Derek (Anderson) took him an awful lot. ... We tried to eliminate his penetration and we did a good job of that. Our big guys, when he did get to the basket, stepped up real well for us and made him change his shot."

"Jason Kidd is a different deal on the court," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "David helps our guards to drive and to set up. He was especially good tonight on the help side defense."

Tony Delk scored 18 points and fellow reserve guard Vinny Del Negro added 14 for the Suns, who have lost two in a row since a four-game winning streak. Both losses have come without forward Shawn Marion, who suffered a concussion Sunday.

"We didn't put any pressure on them on making shots," Del Negro said. "They were coming down and going high-low (post) with Tim and Dave and we couldn't do much to stop it."

A jumper by Robinson gave San Antonio the lead for good at 6-4 less than 4 1/2 minutes into the contest. He had seven points in the first quarter as the Spurs built a 22-14 advantage.

San Antonio led 45-38 at halftime and Duncan scored nine points in the third quarter to help extend the margin to 67-57 entering the final period. His dunk triggered an 8-0 run that featured a jumper by Daniels and four free throws by Robinson, giving the Spurs their largest lead at 83-63 with 3:18 to play.

Phoenix made just 7-of-24 shots and no free throws in the fourth quarter.

"They pretty much did whatever they wanted to us offensively," said Suns coach Scott Skiles, whose team had won two of the first three meetings between the clubs. "We didn't front like we were supposed to and we were a step slow once again defensively from some of our key players."

The Spurs shot 46 percent (38-of-82) and held a 52-41 advantage on the boards.
