Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Steve Francis led six scorers in double figures with 29 points as the Houston Rockets rolled to a 108-91 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Shandon Anderson added 21 points and Maurice Taylor 14 for Houston, which increased its record to 13-0 against teams from the Central Division. The Rockets completed a two-game season series sweep of the first-place Bucks, their sixth sweep of a Central foe.

"I don't know what it is," Francis said. "The East does have a lot of guards and I think that's a better matchup for us."

"Apparently we should be an Eastern conference team," Anderson said. "It's a better matchup for us. The East is more guard-oriented than the West. We play a lot of small ball and the teams in the East play a lot of small ball, but all the power teams in the West are big."

Anderson started in place of Cuttino Mobley, who sat out with an ankle sprain. Francis and Mobley are the fourth highest-scoring backcourt in the league, behind Milwaukee's Ray Allen and Sam Cassell. With Mobley out, Anderson combined with Francis to outscore Allen and Cassell, 50-38.

"We knew this was a big game for us in the playoff chase and guys stepped up and filled all the holes," Anderson said.

Taylor scored six points during a 14-5 run to give the Rockets a 93-75 lead that closed the third quarter and put away the Bucks for good. Rookie Dan Langhi hit a jumper with 1:45 remaining to give Houston its biggest lead at 108-85.

Hakeem Olajuwon made 5-of-10 shots and Walt Williams 6-of-10 for 13 points apiece as the Rockets shot 51 percent (43-of-83). Moochie Norris scored 10 off the bench to assist Houston to its third straight road win.

Milwaukee's worst loss of the season came in Houston on November 2, when it fell, 115-93. This was the Bucks' second-worst loss. Milwaukee has lost two in a row since winning at league-leading Philadelphia on Monday.

"We've had some funkiness the last couple of games," Allen said. "We need to get more determined, especially at the start of games. But every team does it and that's when you need to step up and be professionals. We all go through it but you gotta learn to push forward."

Momemtum seemed to stay with Houston the entire way. Francis, frustrating the Milwaukee guards all night, got the best of Lindsey Hunter.

After Cassell cut the deficit to 10 midway through the third quarter, Hunter fouled Francis as he made a 3-pointer from the right corner. He sank the free for a four-point play and a 79-65 lead with 4:25 left.

"I wish our team would learn something from Houston," Bucks coach George Karl said. "They play a lot of 1-on-1, you can play 1-on-1, but you've gotta pass the ball. Some day, Sam, Glenn and Ray gotta learn that. When they get caught up in playing 1-on-1, that's when we get bogged down."

The Bucks pulled within 79-70 with 3:20 left in the period when Glenn Robinson hit a 3-pointer. But Taylor hit a hook, Allen missed a stationary 3-pointer and Taylor dished to Olajuwon for an inside hoop.

"We just didn't have it tonight," Robinson said. "We didn't play defense and we couldn't hold on to the ball. Houston just caught us at the right time. They're playing confident and were in a bit of a funk right now."

The Bucks never challenged after the first quarter and were outscored in each quarter.

With the game tied, 17-17, Francis scored five straight points and Anderson knocked down a long 3-pointer from the left side before Francis added a 3-pointer from the left corner.

Jason Caffey dunked for Milwaukee, but Anderson had a layup that put the Rockets up, 30-19, with 1:43 to play. The Bucks scored the last four points of the quarter but got no closer thereafter.

Cassell scored 23 points and Robinson added 19 for the Bucks, who shot 45 percent (37-of-82).

After starting for Robinson in Milwaukee's last game, sixth man Tim Thomas sat out this one with a sore lower back.

"Well last year, I remember they smacked us around pretty good. But this time around we did a better job of neutralizing their three All-Stars," Francis added.
