Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks found the perfect antidote for a long losing streak -- the Chicago Bulls.

Jason Terry and Toni Kukoc combined to score 19 points in the fourth quarter as Atlanta snapped a 10-game losing streak -- its longest in 20 years -- with a 93-90 victory over the Bulls.

"It was a challenge to get our energy level up, but my motto was `Not tonight,'" Terry said. "We dropped 10 in a row. We just wanted to end that funk and start over."

Terry finished with 19 points and Kukoc had 16 against his former team as the Hawks also snapped a seven-game losing streak at Philips Arena.

Dion Glover had a season-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals for Atlanta, which shot just 41 percent (36-of-86), but drained 8-of-17 from the arc.

"I thought Glover was a real difference in the game," Chicago coach Tim Floyd said. "He stepped up and made a couple of big plays for them."

Alan Henderson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks, who played without Lorenzen Wright. The forward-center was put on the injured list prior to the game with a sprained right thumb.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Hawks saw their largest lead of 71-64 dissipate as Chicago scored five straight points and eventually took a 74-73 lead with 7:56 to go.

The Hawks regained the lead on a three-point play by Kukoc with 6:37 left and Terry hit two tie-breaking shots in the next 45 seconds, including a 3-pointer at 5:32 that gave Atlanta the lead for good.

"We just couldn't put the game away," Kukoc said. "We were throwing the ball out of bounds, giving the ball away, but finally when we needed it the most, we got a couple of stops and some points."

The Bulls closed within two three times in the final four minutes, but each time either Terry or Kukoc responded to extend Atlanta's lead.

"That was a huge stretch," Atlanta coach Lon Kruger said. "If they don't make those shots, Chicago probably wins. Those shots came at a critical time."

Chicago closed within 89-87 on a pair of free throws by Ron Artest with 40 seconds left. On Atlanta's ensuing possession, Terry was defended by Artest, but Henderson set a screen that forced Elton Brand to pick up the defensive responsibility.

Terry used his quickness to drive past the bigger, slower Brand for an easy layup that put the Hawks ahead by four with 20 seconds left and virtually sealed the victory.

Brand scored nine of his 20 points in the final period for the Bulls, who lost their 17th consecutive road game.

Artest had 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Michael Ruffin swept 12 boards for Chicago, which again was without Ron Mercer. The guard has sat out nine of the last 10 games with a sprained left ankle.
