Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Even Toni Kukoc's second triple-double of the week wasn't enough to help the Atlanta Hawks win a game.

Jerry Stackhouse scored 31 points to give the Detroit Pistons a 106-90 victory that snapped a five-game road losing streak.

"We take wins any way they come, whether they are at home or on the road," Stackhouse said. "We feel like we are playing well right now and hopefully we can just continue to keep it up and try to make a push for this playoff spot."

Kukoc recorded his second triple-double in three games with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He had 20, 11 and 10 in a 109-99 win over Vancouver on Tuesday.

"Toni was terrific," Hawks coach Lon Kruger said. "Second triple-double in a week. Making good plays for others as well as scoring and rebounding."

"I don't care if the guy scores 60 points," Pistons rookie guard Mateen Cleaves said. "If it's a win, hey, we'll take it."

After pulling within 38-36 with 8:26 to play in the second quarter, the Hawks never gained the lead.

The Pistons, who shot 48 perecent (43-of-88) from the field, used a 14-3 run to close the third quarter. Corliss Williamson and Mikki Moore scored five points apiece during the surge. Moore converted a 3-point play following a thunderous alley-oop dunk to give the Pistons an 87-65 lead with 15.3 seconds left.

After Atlanta's Jason Terry hit a 3-pointer with 3:57 to play, Detroit scored eight of the next 12 points to push the lead to 100-86 with under four minutes to go.

Terry scored 20 points for the Hawks, who shot just 42 percent (37-of-87) and have dropped 12 of 14.

"We didn't match their intensity," Terry said. "They really set the tone of the game. We can't allow that at home. After the first half they pretty much let us know what kind of game it was going to be. It was in their favor. I was up to us in the third quarter to change that and we didn't do it."

Detroit had four players in double figures to improve to 2-0 against Atlanta this season. Joe Smith scored 16 points and Williamson and Chucky Atkins added 13 apiece.

Atlanta gave up 17 points on 15 turnovers and was outrebounded, 50-46. Alan Henderson scored 17 points and Nazr Mohammed grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds.

"We got into a good groove early," Stackhouse said. "They're a team that loves to run on offense, but not as much on defense. So we tried to push the ball down where we would get some easy opportunities."
