Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Ray Allen sure knows how to celebrate a Central Division title.

Allen scored 30 of his career-high 43 points in the first half as the Milwaukee Bucks reached the 50-win plateau for the first time in 14 seasons with a 115-93 rout of the Utah Jazz.

The Bucks, who clinched their first Central Division title since 1986 when Toronto fell at Detroit on Wednesday, improved to 8-0 against the top four teams in the West (San Antonio, Sacramento, Utah and the Los Angeles Lakers).

"I can't explain that," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "I think this team is starting to mature and they expect to win now. The first half might have been the best we've ever played. We made shots, passed the ball, rebounded and defended."

Allen scored early and often as Milwaukee got its transition game untracked. A 3-pointer gave the Bucks a 9-3 lead just 2:13 into the contest. They scored the final 10 points of the first quarter, including four by Glenn Robinson, for a 34-16 lead.

"We just want to play well and carry it into next season," Robinson said. "That next season is the playoffs. Ray had the hot hand tonight."

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Allen to open the second extended Milwaukee's lead to 40-16. He totaled 16 points in the quarter as the Bucks took a 60-34 halftime lead.

Allen converted his final 3-pointer with just under two minutes remaining for a 113-86 lead and exited to a standing ovation. Karl was doused with a bucket of Gatorade after the final buzzer.

"Ray shot the ball well and we did a good job of getting him good looks," Karl said. "I didn't think I was rubbing it in (by leaving Allen in) and I hope (Utah) coach (Jerry) Sloan wasn't upset, but I felt Ray earned the right to go for the career high."

Sloan seemed more offended by his team's lackadaisacal play.

"They had a guy score 43 points and we just let him keep scoring all night," Sloan said. "My guys could have have at least fouled him or something. Ray is a wonderful player and he deserves everything he got tonight."

Allen made 14-of-23 shots, including 8-of-14 from beyond the arc. Sam Cassell added 18 points and nine assists for the Bucks, who led by as many as 28 points.

"The first half was the best half of shooting that I've ever had," Allen said. "I had great looks all night and my teammates were getting me the ball. Utah is a legitimate, legitimate basketball team. We sent a message to the whole league. We're for real."

Scott Williams was one of five Bucks in double figures with 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Milwaukee recorded its seventh straight home win. The Bucks made 25-of-30 free throws, including 10-of-10 by Caffey.

"Milwaukee played extremely well tonight," Sloan said. "They played enthusiastically and had fun out there tonight. We played like our feelings were hurt tonight."

Donyell Marshall and Danny Manning scored 14 points apiece for Utah, which was handed its second-worst loss of the season and fell to 9-5 on the road against Eastern Conference opponents.

Karl Malone, who averaged 30.5 points in his previous six games, was held to 13 on 5-of-13 shooting. Utah shot 51 percent (39-of-77) and registered 29 assists.

"It's very disheartening to come out and play this way," Malone said. "As a team, we aren't playing very well. We talk about things in the huddle and then go out on the floor and execute nothing."

Milwaukee swept the series from Utah for the first time since the 1985-86 season.
