Game Story

DENVER (Ticker) -- Robert Pack had the first triple-double by a Nugget in over four years, giving Denver its first season series sweep of the Golden State Warriors in 16 years.

Pack had 12 points, 11 assists and a career-high 10 rebounds to lead the Nuggets to an easy 108-92 victory over the woeful Warriors, who have lost 10 straight games.

The 6-2 Pack has been starting for the injured Nick Van Exel and is making the most of his playing time. He played 40 minutes and directed the offense while grabbing six offensive boards and overcoming six turnovers.

"The guys were pushing me to go in and try to get it," said Pack, a free agent at the end of the season. "That last rebound was a tough one. Up until then I think (teammate) Kevin Willis was trying to keep me from getting it the way he took all the rebounds away from me."

"I was worried for a while there that he would get a quadruple-double," Nuggets coach Dan Issel joked. "I told Anthony (Goldwire) as soon as Robert got his triple-double, I was going to take him out to protect him from getting to 10 turnovers."

It was Pack's second career triple-double and the first by a Nugget since Mark Jackson on January 28, 1997. Pack's other triple-double came in his first stint with Denver on November 26, 1994.

George McCloud scored 24 points for the Nuggets, who had six players in double figures, made 13-of-24 3-pointers and led by as many as 33 points in their third straight victory. Denver had not won three in a row since Janaury 15-19.

"We were shorthanded again tonight but everybody keeps stepping up," McCloud said.

"Guys are stepping up to replace Nick and Antonio (McDyess)," Issel said. "They are all pros and all talented and it's nice to see them not packing it in."

Denver swept Golden State for the first time since the 1984-85 season. It was not exactly a tough task as the injury-ravaged Warriors are just 3-34 since January 25, with 16 losses by 15 points or more.

A basket by Antawn Jamison gave Golden State a 22-22 tie with 1:23 left in the first quarter before Denver scored 19 of the next 21 points. Willis scored eight points in the surge, which was capped at 41-24 by Goldwire's 3-pointer with 7:37 left in the second period.

"We just had one very bad quarter," Warriors coach Dave Cowens said. "We just played awful and got into a real funk. They beat us any which way you can in the second quarter."

The Nuggets led 68-42 at halftime behind 11 points each from McCloud, Raef LaFrentz and Voshon lenard. They opened their largest lead at 87-54 on a 3-pointer by McCloud with 5:13 left in the third quarter.

LaFrentz had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Willis had 13 and 12, James Posey had 12 and 12 and Lenard scored 13 points for the Nuggets, who shot 45 percent (41-of-91).

Jamison scored 30 points and Corie Blount added 15 and 15 boards for the Warriors, who shot 41 percent (38-of-92), including just 1-of-6 from the arc.
