Game Story

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Andre Miller recorded his first career triple-double and dominated the fourth quarter to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first win of the season, 90-83 over the Miami Heat.

Miller had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for the NBA's first triple-double of the season. He made 11-of-17 shots from the field and 8-of-12 free throws.

"It feels good, it's a good individual achievement," Miller said. "If we would have lost, I wouldn't have been happy about it, but we won and it's a good feeling."

After not scoring in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's loss to Charlotte, Miller came up huge against the Heat. He scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds in the final 12 minutes.

"Our effort was there for the fourth quarter," Miller said. "We came out like we were supposed to. In Charlotte we played hard, we made big plays, but we didn't make them down the stretch."

Cleveland led throughout but was threatened when Miami went on a 12-3 run to pull within 82-79 with five minutes remaining.

Chris Mihm nailed a jumper and got the rebound on a miss by Miami's Alonzo Mourning before Miller sank a fadeaway jumper over Anthony Carter for seven-point lead with 4:05 left.

"I thought I was playing pretty good defense on half of the plays," said Carter, who guarded Miller most of the game and fouled out with 2:57 left. "He was making some tough shots. I guess you need to give him a little more respect."

The Heat again pulled within three with 2:10 left, but Miller was fouled after a sequence in which he missed two shots, then sank two free throws with 73 seconds remaining for a 88-83 cushion.

"(Miller) absolutely controlled the game," Miami coach Pat Riley said. "He had a great, great game and made some tough shots. No matter whom we put on him, we couldn't get a handle on him. He was the catalyst in their win tonight."

Wesley Person sealed the win with two free throws with 58 seconds to play.

"It was good for us to be in tough situations and then get to the foul line down the stretch," said Mihm, who scored 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting. "We pulled it out well. They made a run and we held strong."

Miami was held scoreless over the final two minutes and failed in a bid for the 500th win in its history.

Person made 3-of-4 3-pointers and scored 17 points and Jumaine Jones had 10 and 10 rebounds for Cleveland, which shot 51 percent (33-of-65) to overcome 20 turnovers.

Alonzo Mounring had 17 points and nine rebounds and Brian Grant added 16 and seven for the Heat.

Cleveland shot 56 percent (18-of-32) percent in the first half, making 4-of-5 3-pointers.

The Cavs took control with a 10-0 run in the second quarter that gave them a 48-38 lead with 1:35 to go. Person began and ended the burst with 3-pointers.

"In the first half, they shot (56) percent," Mourning said. "You can beat anybody when you let them shoot like that on your home court. I think initially we didn't approach the game aggressively. We didn't try to respond until the latter part of the fourth qaurter."

Cleveland had its largest lead, 80-67, with 9:10 to play. Grant completed a three-point play and Miami scored 12 of the next 15 points but ran out of gas and missed eight of 10 shots over the final five minutes.

"We could not make those last couple of buckets to get over the hump," Grant said. "On any given night, any team can beat anybody. Tonight was that given night for them. We were tentative and didn't finish."

Carter scored 12 points before fouling out and Eddie House added 11 off the bench for Miami, which shot just 41 percent (33-of-80) and was outrebounded, 41-31.
