Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Clifford Robinson scored 23 points and unheralded Zeljko Rebraca added 15 and nine rebounds to lead the Detroit Pistons to their fourth straight victory, a 97-73 triumph over the Chicago Bulls.

Dana Barros also contributed 14 points for Detroit (4-1), which easily survived a poor game by Jerry Stackhouse. After scoring at least 24 points in the first four games, Stackhouse was held to six on 2-of-8 shooting.

Last year, Stackhouse set a United Center record with 57 points against the Bulls.

"This is the best game I've seen Jerry Stackhouse play. I really mean that," Detroit coach Rick Carlisle said. "Their whole defensive plan was to stop him. He scored 57 points the last time he was here. Tonight, he was totally unselfish out there. I'm really impressed. He totally played to win."

"It was almost like they had a vendetta," said Stackhouse, who didn't score a bucket until 7:23 remained in the third quarter. "I was just the decoy or duck call. Two years ago, it would have been difficult for me to handle that. I'm more mature now and trust my other teammates."

Robinson scored 13 points in the third quarter, including back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Pistons a 62-51 advantage with 3:45 remaining. The lead never dipped beneath double digits thereafter.

"Tonight, we had a lot of open looks because of their defense on Jerry," Robinson said. "Dana and I had good looks and knew it would only be a matter of time before our shots fell."

Detroit defeated Chicago in all four meetings last season and has won 10 of the last 11 meetings.

Fred Hoiberg scored 11 points and rookie Trenton Hassell added 10 for the Bulls. Ron Mercer scored nine points, none in the last three quarters.

"You feel tonight was your shot by stopping their big guy," Bulls coach Tim Floyd said. "It just shows that they are sharing the ball better. They have a lot of guys that can score."

Bulls teenage rookie 7-footer Tyson Chandler made his first start. He scored Chicago's first bucket on a one-handed dunk off an alley-oop feed from Greg Anthony but added only three more points the rest of the contest.

The Pistons held a double-digit lead three times in the first quarter, but Mercer and Brad Miller keyed a 13-2 run to give the Bulls a 21-20 lead with 2:05 to go.

Barely a minute into the second quarter, Corliss Williamson hit a short jumper that reclaimed the lead for good for the Pistons at 25-24.

Rebraca collected 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half, which ended with Detroit holding a 48-43 lead.
