Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls stuck with the Sacramento Kings for one quarter. Coach Tim Floyd stuck around a little longer.

An awful second quarter ended with Floyd's ejection as the Kings raced to a 105-71 victory over the hapless Bulls and remained unbeaten at home.

Peja Stojakovic scored 21 points to lead a balanced attack for the Kings, who trailed early before blowing past the Bulls with a 31-15 second quarter.

As he watched his team play its way to a sixth straight loss, Floyd lost his cool with 40 seconds remaining in the first half. He has battled management over his use of teenage rookies Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry and was publicly criticized by forward Charles Oakley.

"I wouldn't read too much into it," Floyd said. "I would just read into it as a guy who's trying to stand up for his players a little bit. Let's don't make that the game."

Chicago center Brad Miller clearly was fouled twice underneath the basket, and when no call was made, Floyd stormed onto the court and grabbed the ball, refusing to return it as he argued to no avail with referees.

"I went out there to get Brad off the court," Floyd said. "I thought in order to help him out, I might get a zinger in there on the official who I thought missed the call. You go through 82 games and you're going to miss a call. I thought I got run up pretty quick."

The Bulls (1-8) finished with a season low in points and a season-high 26 turnovers. Half their losses have been by 24 points or more.

"The difference was turnovers," Bulls guard Greg Anthony said. "We got a little frazzled there in the second quarter, a little frustrated with some calls, and kind of got out of sync. There were far too many turnovers."

Mike Bibby and Hedo Turkoglu scored 16 points apiece for the Kings, who shot 52 percent (41-of-79) and had six players in double figures. Sacramento has beaten Chicago five straight times.

"We did a lot of talking yesterday and this morning about if you don't go out and play the game in this league and you don't play it right, you're going to get beat, no matter who it is," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.

A driving layup by Bobby Jackson gave Sacramento the lead for good at 29-28 with 10:51 left in the second quarter and began a 13-3 run. Stojakovic scored five points and Turkoglu four in the surge, which opened a 40-31 lead with 5:31 remaining.

Miller also picked up a technical as Floyd was ejected and Doug Christie made all three free throwws to push the lead to 56-39.

Stojakovic scored four more points in an 11-0 burst that gave the Kings a 74-47 lead with 3:47 to play in the third quarter. Sacramento's biggest advantage was 38 points.

"Once we got going in the second quarter, we carried it all the way through," Kings forward Lawrence Funderburke said. "Coach emphasized how important it was to come out in the third quarter and be effective the whole way instead of letting them back in the game and giving them life."

Vlade Divac scored 11 points and Funderburke and Christie added 10 apiece for the Kings, whose next game is Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Every time we play them, we don't play them well, especially on their home court," Stojakovic said. "We are looking forward to this game, to see if we can do better."

Ron Mercer scored 14 points and rookie Trenton Hassell added 10 in his first start for the Bulls, who shot 43 percent (31-of-72) and made just 9-of-18 free throws.
