Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Lamar Odom and Corey Maggette combined for 40 points as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Orlando Magic, 100-92, to climb above .500 for the first time in more than five years.

Odom was 7-of-11 for 19 points and had 10 assists before fouling out with 5:04 left. Maggette was 7-of-12 for 21 points as the Clippers moved above .500 for the first time since they were 6-5 on November 21, 1996.

"It's a great feeling," Clippers guard Quentin Richardson said. "We worked real hard for it. Now that we're here, we'll just have to stay here and keep improving on it."

"It's the first time in my NBA career I'm over .500," added forward Elton Brand. "It feels great. It might be a small feat for some, but for me, being with the Bulls never over .500 and now with the Clippers, it's been a while, so it's a small feat for some but it's big for us."

The Clippers entered the fourth quarter down, 76-75, but Maggette made a pair of free throws to give them the lead for good. Los Angeles scored the first nine points of the fourth and began the final period on a 20-4 run.

"That's not the same old Clippers I used to know," said Magic star Tracy McGrady, who had a season-high 47 points. "They're so athletic, it's not even funny. Any one of these guys can get going at any given time.

"They played hard and it was hard to come in and match their intensity. It was a winnable game that we let slip away."

After Richardson hit a 3-pointer with 5:43 to go to build a 95-80 lead, the Magic went on a 12-1 burst but couldn't get closer than four points.

Richardson scored 16, including nine in the fourth quarter, and Jeff McInnis also had 16 for Los Angeles.

McGrady had 11 rebounds and four assists to go along with his 47 points -- two off a career high. He had 40 points and 11 rebounds in a 107-104 loss to Atlanta on Saturday night, which snapped a four-game winning streak.

"He was hot," Maggette said. "It wasn't like we weren't playing defense. When you're on a roll, it's hard to be stopped. It just so happens we slowed everybody else down."

"One guy's not going to win the game for you," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "There's two stretches in the game when we took T-Mac off the floor, and those two stretches, the Clippers had two big runs. In those five minutes, he was off the floor we were minus-12."

Darrell Armstrong contributed 15 points and Mike Miller and Horace Grant registered 10 apiece for Orlando, but the team shot just 40 percent (35-of-87).

"It was an off night for my guys who can shoot the ball really well," McGrady said. "It's one of those nights you try everyting you can to get them going, but they have off nights. It's no problem, we just have to put it in the past."

McGrady shot 10-of-14 and had 26 points by halftime, when the game was tied at 51-51. Grant had eight points and eight rebounds, and Miller added eight points through two quarters.

"One guy isn't going to beat us," Brand said. "You stop one guy on our team and you definitely can't beat us. Our guys stepped up and played great."

The Clippers won despite a poor showing from Brand, Los Angeles' leading scorer who finished with just six points on 2-of-5 shooting in 26 minutes.

Maggette had 11 points after the first period to lead Los Angeles, which trailed, 27-18. The Clippers took the lead at 45-44 on a jumper by Sean Rooks with 1:40 to go.
