Game Story

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Ray Allen scored 26 points and started a key fourth-quarter spurt as the Milwaukee Bucks extended the Memphis Grizzlies' losing streak to five games with a 114-105 triumph.

Allen snapped a 90-90 tie with a 13-foot jumper with 7:37 to go, triggering a 20-6 run over the next 6 1/2 minutes and helping the Bucks win their third straight game.

Allen made 5-of-8 3-pointers and had nine rebounds and six assists.

"I just think about what I need to do to win the game," Allen said. "I think about what I've got to do to get the team to win the game. Everbody is capable of winning the game, and sometimes it takes the fourth quarter to win. A 20-point lead is nothing in the NBA."

Milwaukee led 67-58 at halftime and by 11 points early in the third quarter before Memphis went on a 21-7 run to take the lead. Allen made 1-of-2 free throws to cut the deficit to 85-83 entering the fourth quarter.

Michael Redd hit a 3-pointer and Anthony Mason had back-to-back buckets to give Milwaukee a 90-88 lead with 8:39 left. Stromile Swift tied it up on a dunk with 7:57 to go before Allen keyed the big run.

"I think it was a typical Milwaukee Bucks game," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "(We) get a lead, blow it and come back and win it. That's how we are."

Five other players reached double figures for Milwaukee, which has won five of its last six contests. Glenn Robinson and Sam Cassell, the other members of the Bucks' "Big Three," chipped in 23 and 20, respectively. Milwaukee shot 53 percent (41-of-77).

"We were lackadaisical," Cassell said. "The whole third quarter was terrible, just terrible. Memphis got some momentum going, which they should have, but we came back because this team knows what it takes to win. If this team makes shots, it's tough for anybody to beat us."

"We came out relaxed in the third quarter," Robinson said. "Once we figured out we got a game going, we started to play some defense and get some stops. (But) we want to play better than that. Letting teams back in is always a concern."

Memphis was paced by Swift's 27 points and 18 rebounds, both career highs. Jason Williams and rookies Shane Battier and Pau Gasol each scored 19 points and Gasol added 15 rebounds.

"A career high doesn't mean much when your team loses," Swift said. "I would much rather get a win."

The Grizzlies were outrebounded, 44-33. They have not won since defeating Philadelphia on December 8 and fell to 0-11 in games in which it gave up at least 100 points.

"We matched their intensity," Swift said. "We just had a couple of mental lapses in the fourth quarter and that probably cost us the game. Other than that, we played well enough to win the game. We just didn't pull it off."
