Game Story

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls may have a new identity following last week's acquisition of Jalen Rose and Travis Best, but they look the same to the Detroit Pistons.

Corliss Williamson scored 24 points and Jon Barry added 21 and a career-high 10 assists for his first career double-double as the Pistons continued their domination of the Bulls with a 101-89 victory.

Overcoming the absence of leading scorer Jerry Stackhouse, Detroit posted its eighth straight victory over the NBA's worst team. Stackhouse was a last-minute scratch with a strained right shoulder.

"I thought the key was the third quarter," Barry said. "We had a seven-point lead at the half and we got it to double digits going to the fourth. We played really well defensively in the third. We held them to 18 (points)."

Barry, who played 42 minutes in Stackhouse's absence, fell three rebounds shy of a triple-double.

"It (triple-double) would have been fun and I was definitely lurking around the boards but I had both Ben (Wallace) and (Cliff) Robinson take rebounds away from me and that's when I pretty much gave up," Barry said.

Leading by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter, the Pistons (32-23) matched last season's win total and remained one-half game behind first-place Milwaukee in the Central Division.

"That's a great feeling because we've improved so much from last year," Williamson said. "But we've got big goals. I'm thinking NBA title."

The Pistons placed six players in double figures as Robinson scored 16 points and Michael Curry, Zeljko Rebraca and Damon Jones all chipped in with 10 points.

"We knew Jerry wasn't going to be in there, so we did a great job of taking care of the ball and distributing it," Williamson said.

Rose scored 29 points in his hometown but got little help as the Bulls dropped to 3-25 on the road this season, including 1-15 against the Eastern Conference. They have dropped 13 of their last 14 games against the Pistons.

Detroit shot 48 percent (39-of-81) from the field, including 8-of-19 from 3-point range.

"It was disappointing that we didn't guard them how we wanted to guard them in our normal defensive scheme," Chicago coach Bill Cartwright said. "As we play these good teams, it's really tough chasing teams from behind. They knocked down a couple threes and we just ended up chasing them the whole game."

The Bulls committed 17 turnovers that the Pistons converted into 25 points.

The game was not as close as the score indicated as Detroit led, 91-71, with seven minutes left.

The Bulls have dropped two straight after winning their first three games with Rose in the lineup. They were coming off a 112-97 home setback to Orlando.

Eddy Curry and fellow rookie Trenton Hassell scored 13 points apiece for the Bulls, who dressed only nine players due to injuries.

"Anytime you have three rookies and a second-year player, it's hard to pay attention to detail for a long period of time because you haven't done it before," Rose said. "It's hard to understand what guys' strengths and weaknesses are because you're in the NBA for the first time or getting minutes for the first time."

Detroit, which took an 80-66 lead into the final period, rebounded from Sunday's loss to Milwaukee and have won 16 of its last 21 games.

"I think a lot of people underestimated (Detroit's) Rick Carlisle as a coach," Rose said. "He's real prepared. He has those guys ready to play and he uses every guy to his strength. That's going to be a tough team to beat in the second half and the playoffs."
