Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- You knew it wasn't going to be a good night for the Houston Rockets when a bat attacked Moochie Norris.

In a game that saw a wayward bat fly at Norris, Jason Richardson scored 32 points and Antawn Jamison 27 as the Golden State Warriors posted their first road victory this year with a 108-95 triumph over the Rockets.

Play was stopped for about five minutes in the second quarter after a bat swooped down from the rafters and buzzed Norris. Arena workers emerged with huge nets to corral the intruder before play resumed.

The win snapped a 13-game road losing streak and was the Warriors' first away from home since a 105-101 win in Denver on December 22. They ended a three-game overall skid.

"The guy (Richardson) is going to be awesome," Jamison said. "Every game we play he gets more confidence. Offensively, he's phenomenal. He's going to be one of the best in the league.

"Anytime you can end a loss streak it's a good thing to do. We've been in a lot of close games ... we wanted to stop the bleeding tonight."

Jamison netted 11 points in the final quarter, the last seven in an 11-2 run that gave the Warriors a 100-89 lead with two minutes remaining.

Cuttino Mobley scored 31 points and Steve Francis chipped in 23 for Houston, which scored just 14 points in the fourth quarter and lost for the third time in the last four games.

"I really couldn't tell you what happened (in the fourth quarter), I'm very upset," Mobley said. "We didn't match their intensity and I don't have much else to say about that."

Golden State broke open a tight game in the third quarter when Richardson hit a jumper and fellow rookie Gilbert Arenas followed with a tip-in for a 62-56 lead 9:05 into the period.

Walt Williams cut the deficit to five points with a free throw before Jamison, Danny Fortson and Erick Dampier all made baskets for a 68-57 advantage.

Houston clawed back and took an 81-80 lead on Mobley's jumper with 11 seconds left.

But the Rockets fell apart in the fourth period, managing just one basket in the first four minutes. They managed to close within 89-87 on Mobley's layup with 6:30 to go, but Richardson drained a jumper that ignited an 11-2 spurt.

"They outhustled us and they outrebounded us. We just couldn't get the stops on them in the fourth quarter," Francis said. "We couldn't knock down the shots and answer their play in the fourth."

Fortson had 18 rebounds and eight points and Bob Sura scored 17 points for Golden State, which shot 43 percent (38-of-89) and enjoyed a 58-45 rebounding edge.

Eddie Griffin scored 12 of his 14 points in the second quarter for Houston, which shot just 4-of-27 from beyond the arc and 39 percent (38-of-97) overall.
