Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 33 points and Toni Kukoc added 23 off the bench as the Atlanta Hawks equaled last season's win total with their third straight victory, 104-89 over the Phoenix Suns.
Abdur-Rahim grabbed 12 rebounds and DerMarr Johnson chipped in 14 points for Atlanta (25-39), which took the lead for good with a 12-0 burst midway through the third quarter, snapping a five-game losing streak against Phoenix.
"I just took advantage of what they gave me, and I'm thankful that I was able to help the team," said Abdur-Rahim, whose 24.5 points in his past 18 games is more than three points above his season average.
Stephon Marbury scored 25 points and Shawn Marion netted 16 as the struggling Suns lost their sixth straight road game and fourth in a row overall.
"It was a lack of effort on the defensive end, they kind of took it to us," Marion said.
Marion got into foul trouble early, displeasing Phoenix coach Frank Johnson.
"This is the third game in a row Shawn got fouls, but cheap fouls. He's got to know, he's got to focus and get tough," Johnson said.
Trailing 47-44 at halftime, Phoenix rallied to take a 54-49 lead on Marbury's 3-pointer 90 seconds into the third quarter. Atlanta answered with the next 12 points, assuming a 61-54 edge on Jason Terry's 3-pointer with 7:40 to go.
It was a quiet scoring night for Terry, who finished with 11 points but contributed elsewhere with eight assists, four rebounds and four steals. Kukoc also had a well-rounded effort, collecting six rebounds and six assists in addition to leading the Hawks' bench to a 34-13 scoring advantage.
"Everybody knows (Terry and Abdur-Rahim) are capable of doing anything on any given night," Johnson said. "Tonight Toni stepped in and had 23 points. JT didn't have a big night, but he still played well."
Atlanta shot 49 percent (35-of-72) from the floor -- including 8-of-15 from beyond the arc -- while matching its longest winning streak of the season and beating Phoenix for the first time since March 19, 1999.
"It was a pretty consistent effort from start to finish," Atlanta coach Lon Kruger said.
Alan Henderson had season highs with 12 points and seven rebounds as the Hawks won for just the fifth time in the last 19 meetings with Phoenix.
Rookie Joe Johnson scored 14 points and Jake Tsakalidis 12 for the Suns, who led by as many as seven points in the first quarter.
