Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Tim Hardaway may have sent a television airborne, but Tracy McGrady and the Orlando Magic made sure the Denver Nuggets stayed grounded.

McGrady had 30 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and a career-high six steals as the Magic matched their season-high winning streak with their fourth consecutive victory, 124-102 over the hapless Nuggets.

The All-Star swingman had several highlight-worthy layups and dunks, but the play of the game came from Hardaway, who after being ejected following his second technical foul midway through the third quarter took out his frustrations on a courtside TV monitor.

Hardaway, who had been held scoreless in 17 minutes, launched the monitor about 30 feet onto the court.

"I was thinking of throwing a TV out there," Hardaway said. "I was in the right frame of mind. I said, ĎI need to pick up something and throw this TV and get all this frustrtion out of me, cause I think it was some (bull)."

"Tim got a little frustrated with the way the game was going, the fouls that took place," Denver coach Mike Evans said. "He reacted, and he could've handled it better. He's a very passionate and emotional guy about the game and stuff like that happens. The only thing I've seen like that is Bobby Knight. I thought about doing it too."

Orlando's Darrell Armstrong, who earlier had been assessed a double technical with Hardaway for trash-talking, returned the monitor to its rightful place on press row and plugged it back in, earning cheers from the crowd.

"I wanted them folks to watch the game," Armstrong said. "They already have courtside seats, (but) I want them to have a good TV to watch along with it, to hear the announcers."

After the game, Hardaway and Armstrong both signed the TV, which will be auctioned off to benefit the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation.

ď(Referee) Marc (Davis) has a history with me and doesnít like to call fouls for me when thereís a foul," Hardaway said. "He always is talking smack to me and not doing the right thing, what heís supposed to do. He saw the guy (Monty Williams) talking (garbage) to me. Instead of giving him a technical like heís supposed to have done, he didnít.

"The same way with (referee) Tommy Nunez. Instead of giving Darrell a technical foul because Darrell walked in my face and started talking (garbage), they gave both of us a tech. But youíve got to give it to the guy who starts talking first the technical instead of the retaliation. The retaliation is 'cause this guy is talking (garbage) to you. What am I supposed to do, back down? No. Thatís why I think it was wrong for them to kick me out.

Other than that, they were calling a hell of a ballgame."

Orlando took the lead for good at 4-2 on a basket by McGrady, whose two free throws at the end of the third quarter gave the Magic a 93-83 advantage. Denver trailed by at least nine points thereafter.

"They made a couple of runs, but then we made some timely threes and got some big steals," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "I thought that one stretch were we got three or four steals, layups -- I thought that broke the game open."

Orlando led by as many as 25 points late in the fourth quarter.

Troy Hudson scored 24 points and Pat Garrity and Williams added 18 apiece for Orlando, which shot 55 percent (46-of-84) from the field en route to its 10th consecutive win over Denver and eighth straight home victory. Williams' tally was a season high.

Juwan Howard had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Antonio McDyess scored 18 points for Denver, which dropped its third straight game despite shooting 50 percent (42-of-84).

"I have been that angry before, but I have never actually thought about throwing a TV," McDyess said. "It is a good thing nobody was standing there. They can put that on 'America's Funniest Home Videos.' I saw the fans laughing and screaming."

"Yeah, I was laughing, I thought it was funny," McGrady said about Hardaway's meltdown. "Never, never, ever seen a television being thrown out on a court."
