Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings keep inching closer to securing home-court advantage in the playoffs, which is bad news for the rest of the Western Conference.

Hedo Turkoglu recorded career highs with 31 points and 10 assists and Chris Webber scored 20 points as the Kings rolled to a 118-82 rout of the lowly Denver Nuggets.

Sacramento has an NBA-best 32-3 home record and had no trouble disposing of Denver, which has lost 11 straight visits to Arco Arena since January 1, 1997. The Kings maintained a two-game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

Turkoglu made 12-of-15 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 3-pointers, and 4-of-5 free throws to eclipse his previous career best by seven points.

Turkoglu, who started because All-Star guard Peja Stojakovic is sidelined with a hamstring injury, led six players in double figures as Sacramento shot 57 percent (43-of-75) from the field.

"Everybody always tried to compare Peja and I, but we are two different players," Turkoglu said. "He is a good scorer, and today I really tried to do the same thing. I try to do the same thing as a starter I do coming off the bench. Peja was missing, so I had to step it up."

Reserve Bobby Jackson scored 17 points and Doug Christie and Mike Bibby added 11 apiece. Gerald Wallace had 10 points off the bench for the Kings, who lost Christie to an injury in the second quarter.

"I am pleased with the way the game went. I was a little concerned with how many people we were going to have left," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. " I think Doug is going to be OK. We have no idea if (Stojakovic) is going to play. All I know is we're not going to push him. We can't afford to lose him for an extended period of time."

Sacramento scored the game's first 13 points but had just a 34-31 edge early in the second quarter before going on a 13-3 run.

Mike Bibby capped it with a 3-pointer to give the Kings a 47-34 cushion with 7:40 left in the first half.

The Nuggets climbed within 49-40 on a jumper by Voshon Lenard with 4:20 to go, but the Kings closed the second quarter with a 22-10 burst and took a 69-48 advantage into halftime.

Denver got no closer than 19 points in the final 24 minutes and Sacramento had its largest lead, 118-80, on a 3-pointer by Turkoglu with 56 seconds to go.

The Kings scored 29 fast-break points and 23 off 17 turnovers by the Nuggets.

George McCloud scored 15 points and Zendon Hamilton added 14 off the bench for Denver, which has lost six straight.

"We're playing teams that are in the playoff hunt and they see us as a chance to win the ballgame and improve their chances in the playoffs," Denver coach Mike Evans said.

Calbert Chaney and Carlos Arroyo contributed 10 points apiece as the Nuggets shot just 32 percent (29-of-90) from the field, including 2-of-11 from 3-point range.
