Game StoryAUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Ben Wallace showed again that he can dominate a game without shooting much. Wallace had his second career triple-double to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 79-68 victory over the Miami Heat. "Ben was spectacular," Pistons coach Rick Carlisle said. "It's breathtaking to watch a guy play with the kind of effort he puts forth every night." Last year's NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Wallace had 12 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks. He shot 6-of-8 from the field and presented problems for the Heat all game, tying his own franchise record for blocks in a game and setting a team mark for blocks in a quarter with six in the first period. "I know we take him for granted a lot, but he just went out there and put up 10 blocks and 19 rebounds," said Pistons guard Jon Barry, who scored eight points. "That's an amazing performance." Wallace notched his first triple-double on February 24 at Milwaukee with 10 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks. "I'm known for rebounding and blocking shots," said Wallace, who sported cornrows after appearing with a large afro Monday in New York. "For me, the hardest part of a triple-double is getting the 10 points. Tonight, I got a couple dunks and that helped." After a nip-and-tuck first half, the Pistons opened the third quarter with a 7-0 run. Chucky Atkins, filling in for injured starter Chauncey Billups, scored five of his season-high 21 points as Detroit built a 44-34 lead. "What beat us was turning the damn ball over," said Heat forward Brian Grant, who committed three of Miami's 16 turnovers. "We had five right in the beginning of the third quarter. It went from a three-point lead to a 12-point lead like that. We weren't giving ourselves a chance." The Pistons held the Heat to a season-low 12 points in the third period. Miami has been outscored in five third quarters this season, losing each game. "The third quarter, which has pretty much been our nemesis all year long, was what did us in," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We couldn't stay the course. We started to make mistakes. There wasn't one guy tonight that I thought played well." Vladimir Stepania had his first career double-double for the Heat, posting 12 points and 13 rebounds. "Maybe Vlade played well," Riley said. The NBA's best defensive team, Detroit has held three opponents under 70 points this season and is 7-0 when leading or tied after three quarters. Miami's 68 points represented a series low. The Heat scored a season-high 97 points in a victory Tuesday at Milwaukee. "You can't get happy just because you get a win," Grant said. "Shoot, 2-7, you can't get happy. You can't just say people are going to lay down." Atkins scored a career-high 36 points on March 2 against the Heat.
