Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell again kept the Milwaukee Bucks from drifting off course in the absence of Ray Allen. Cassell scored 24 points and collected a season-high 10 assists and Tim Thomas added 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting as the Milwaukee Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak against the Detroit Pistons with a 109-86 rout. Again playing without the injured Allen, Cassell and Thomas combined for 17 points in the third period and gave Milwaukee an 87-68 cushion after 36 minutes. "I thought Sam had a great game, almost a triple-double," Bucks coach George Karl said. "I told him without Ray we need that good leadership from him and to get the other guys involved as much as possible." Cassell, who also had six rebounds, has averaged 25.8 points in four games since Allen went on the injured list with a sprained right ankle. The Bucks are 2-2 during that span. Michael Redd chipped in 20 points for the Milwaukee, which shot 57 percent from the field (44-of-77) and earned a split of the home-and-home series after losing on Friday at the Palace of Auburn Hills. "Last night, we missed a lot of shots," Cassell said. "It was the same type of game tonight. We just knocked down shots." "We have a lot of work to do defensively," Pistons coach Rick Carlisle said. "When they are shooting 75 percent after one quarter and still shooting above 60 (percent) after two, you are not doing something right." Allen, who led the NBA in 3-pointers last season, is averaging 22 points in 12 games. "Sam has been stepping up," Redd said. "We need him to be a leader for us out on the floor. When he plays well, this team does well." Richard Hamilton scored 15 points for the Pistons, who lost for the first time in four games against Central Division foes. "It's definitely frustrating," Hamilton said. "It's important when you are away from not to get down early. Now we are going to have to pick it back up." The Bucks scored the first nine points of the third quarter. Thomas contributed five during the burst, converting a three-point play with 8:07 remaining to give Milwaukee a 71-52 lead. "I thought the beginning of the second half, we turned the game into more of a defensive game," Karl said. "I was thinking before the game that the team that would tune into defense would win the game." Five Bucks reached double figures. Rookie center Dan Gadzuric matched a season high with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting and Kevin Ollie also scored 12 off the bench. "I'm beginning to develop a little more confidence out there offensively and defensively," Gadzuric said. "I'm simply trying to apply my work in practice to the floor on game nights."
