Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Even at their minimum, the 
Sacramento Kings continue to roll.

Doug Christie scored 23 points and Bobby Jackson continued his
stellar play with 21 as the Kings remained unbeaten at home with
a 98-77 rout of the Denver Nuggets.

The Kings used a league-minimum eight players and were without
guard Mike Bibby (right foot), forward Peja Stojakovic (heel),
swingman Hedo Turkoglu (wrist), center Scot Pollard (back) and
forward Lawrence Funderburke (heel).

Bibby has yet to play, Stojakovic has missed eight consecutive
games, Turkoglu has sat out the last four games and Pollard has
played in just three games.

Bibby has not been cleared to start running on the court and
Stojakovic recently returned to Sacramento after consulting with
a specialist in Yugolslavia.

But even with two starters sidelined, Sacramento (17-5) matched
last season's 22-game start, improved to 11-0 at home, posted
their fifth straight win and beat the Nuggets for the 12th
consecutive time at Arco Arena.

Although the Kings rolled to a blowout win, it was not pretty.
They committed 22 turnovers, but made up for it with a
season-high 12 3-pointers and forced 21 giveaways.

"I thought we defended a lot better tonight than we did in
Denver," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said.  "We just didn't
take care of the ball.  That was probably the biggest problem we
had all night.  We did enough at the defensive end to open the
game up.  We knew what we were going to try to do and we tried
to take some things away, but we defended a lot better tonight."

Leading 48-35 at halftime and 78-61 through three quarters, the
Kings used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to extend their lead
to 95-69 with 3:58 remaining.

The Nuggets went scoreless for nearly five minutes as the Kings
easily pulled away. After Chris Whitney's jumper brought the
Nuggets within 82-69, Christie started the burst by making three
foul shots.

Keon Clark made a jumper and backup guard Damon Jones scored the
next five points on two free throws and an uncontested
3-pointer.

"The Kings are very effective," Denver guard James Posey said.
"The guys that are playing smart and stepping up and playing big
for them.  That is a sign of the depth that the Kings have."

Christie shot 7-of-10 from the field and made 5-of-7 3-pointers
as he fell two points shy of his season high.

The Kings had a chance to put away the game in the second
quarter after shooting 65 percent (13-of-20) in the first
period.  They made five of their first nine shots to open up a
46-27 lead at the 6:15 mark on Jackson's fadeaway jumper.

But Sacramento committed nine turnovers and missed seven of its
last eight shots as the teams went into the locker room.

"At first we got out and we were taking care of the ball and all
of a sudden the wheels came off and we couldn't hold on to the
lead," Christie said.  "They were turning the ball back over to
us and if this had been any other team this would have been a
really close game.  I don't know if we say good job or not, but
a win is a win."

Posey scored 22 points for Denver, which missed a potential
winning shot in Wednesday's 92-90 loss to the Kings.

"The effort was there once again from our young team," Nuggets
coach Jeff Bzdelik said.  "However, our inability to make shots
just allows teams to get out on the break.  I think you all saw,
we just can't put it down, even from the free throw line. The
free throw line reflects on the ability to shoot the ball well.
The Kings are a model for us, I love the way they play.  They
move the basketball and they are very unselfish."
