Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell and Michael Redd were clutch 
down the stretch.  The New York Knicks were not.

Cassell scored six of his 25 points in the final two minutes and
Redd produced two clutch free throws and a late steal as the
Milwaukee Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 94-90
triumph over the Knicks.

New York led, 88-84, after Kurt Thomas nailed a pair of free
throws with 2:04 to play.  But Milwaukee scored the next eight
points, taking the lead for good, 89-88, on a 12-foot jumper by
Cassell with 58 seconds remaining.

Nine seconds after Cassell capped the run with a 3-pointer that
made it 92-88, Thomas countered with an eight-foot jumper.  But
Redd made a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to restore
the Bucks' four-point lead, then stole the ball from Thomas with
two seconds remaining to seal it.

"We had seven turnovers in the fourth quarter," Knicks coach Don
Chaney said.  "We cheated ourselves by turning the ball over.
You can't turn the ball over and beat a good team."

Cassell, who played 37 minutes, shot 8-of-17 from the field and
8-of-11 from the line.

"Tonight we came out in the fourth quarter and tried to play
loose and hit shots," Cassell said.  "When we play with
confidence, we are a different team."

"That guy is capable of hitting big shots," Chaney said of
Cassell.  "You can't give him space.  He is fearless, pressure
doesn't bother him."

Redd scored 21 points and Anthony Mason added 16 against his
former team for Milwaukee, which improved to 2-0 against the
Knicks this season after losing both meetings at the Bradley
Center in 2001-02.

"We were all upset about last night's game," Redd said of the
95-84 loss at Memphis.  "Tonight gave us a little bit of
encouragement.  We have had trouble winning close games.
Hopefully, we gained a little confidence tonight and use the
momentum from this win."

Allan Houston contributed 17 points and Thomas had 16 and 12
rebounds for the Knicks, who had won three of their previous
four games.

"You don't want to take steps back, and that is what we did
tonight," Houston said.  "We just need to keep moving forward."

Latrell Sprewell scored 13 points for New York but made just
5-of-16 shots.

"I thought our guards did a good job on Houston and Sprewell,
and that is a big reason why we won," Bucks coach George Karl
said. "In general, the last few nights, we were not tough
offensively. We are still trying to find our rhythm."

New York fell to 2-7 on the road, while Milwaukee won for just
the third time in 10 games this month.

The Bucks shot 46 percent (35-of-77) and the Knicks 45 percent
(36-of-80).  Milwaukee won the rebounding battle, 43-39, but was
outscored on second-chance opportunities, 15-6.

Milwaukee made 20-of-26 free throws but was just 4-of-13 from
beyond the arc.  New York was 11-of-15 and 7-of-14.

The game featured 10 lead changes and 15 ties, and neither team
possessed a double-digit advantage.

"I felt had we played up to our abilities we would have won that
game," Chaney said.  "We didn't have a good game.  I thought
our defensive intensity wasn't there.  Our defense was not as
tough as it has been.  Especially against a good-shooting team,
you can't give them space."
