Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz for the first time since Michael Jordan departed, riding 31 points from Jalen Rose to a 113-98 victory. The Bulls snapped a 10-game regular season-losing streak against the Jazz that dated to January 6, 1997. Chicago notched its first victory over Utah since Jordan clinched the 1998 NBA title for the Bulls on a shot with 6.9 seconds left in the fourth quarter of Game Six at the Delta Center. The Jazz had a four-game winning streak snapped. They wrapped up a three-game road trip with just their second loss in the last nine games. "They don't have a terrific record, but that's the NBA," Utah guard John Stockton said. "You have to be prepared every night. I don't think we were at the top of our game. They certainly were." Marcus Fizer added a season-high 28 points for the Bulls, who have won three of their last four games, also knocking off the streaking Portland Trail Blazers on December 31. Rose had seven assists to lead the Bulls, who shot 53 percent (40-of-75) from the field and improved to 5-0 when hitting at least half their shots. "I'm just glad that we won the game and got it done," Rose said. "I think when you're a young team, fear is the best motivator. If you don't play well, you can get booed out of your own gym and booed out of town." Former Jazz Donyell Marshall capped a decisive 15-0 third-quarter run by hitting two free throws that gave Chicago an 85-62 lead. Marshall collected 17 points and 11 rebounds. "A lot of people questioned my move to come here," Marshall said. "I've always said this is a team that's on the rise. We're still struggling a little bit, but this team is going in the right direction. Anytime you can get a win over your ex-teammates, it always feels good." Matt Harpring led Utah with 18 points. Karl Malone and Stockton added 16 apiece. "It just seemed like we never got it going tonight," Malone said. "It's always kind of amazing. Teams get ready to play you, so you've got to be ready to play them. It hasn't changed in all the years I've been here. They came out and wanted to play tonight and they deserved to win." Rookie guard Jay Williams sat out for the Bulls with a sprained left ankle and was replaced in the starting lineup by Jamal Crawford, who has complained about playing time this season. Crawford scored nine of his 12 points in the decisive third quarter, playing 37 minutes. "Jamal did a good job," Bulls coach Bill Cartwright said. "He handled himself well, he handled the pressure well and he was on Stockton, so I thought he did a good job."
