Game StorySALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The Seattle SuperSonics can hardly make it through a game without one terrible quarter. Karl Malone scored a season-high 34 points and Matt Harpring had 24 of his 26 in the second half as the Utah Jazz rallied for a 92-85 victory over the SuperSonics. Seattle has lost a season-high six straight games due to performances like Sunday, when it tied a franchise record with eight points in the fourth quarter of a defeat to Cleveland. The Sonics did not wait until the final period for their latest collapse. Seattle had a 50-35 halftime advantage but was outscored, 34-11, in the third quarter. "We did a good job of containing those guys in and disrupting them in the first half," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "But we gave them an opportunity in the second half. Malone had his jump shot going and we couldn't knock down any shots." The Jazz made 13-of-20 shots in the period while the Sonics were just 4-of-10 from the floor. "I think our guys realized we just weren't being intense," said Jazz guard John Stockton, who had five points and eight assists. "We tried to come out and do just that. They came out and helped us a little bit, they missed some shots and that kind of fueled the fire." "We executed and got them a little out of sync and they missed some shots which put us back in the game," Utah coach Jerry Sloan added. "It was refreshing after we played so poorly." Harpring scored 15 points in the third quarter as the Jazz turned a 16-point deficit into a 10-point advantage with 10 seconds remaining. "The good thing about our team is that we didn't give up," Harpring said. "We just kept fighting through it. We came out in the second half and played the way we're capable of playing." Utah carried an eight-point advantage into the fourth quarter and had its largest lead at 80-69 on a jumper with 6:02 remaining. The Sonics pulled within 86-82 on a jumper by Gary Payton with 59 seconds remaining. But Malone responded with a jumper and Harpring made 4-of-4 free throws in the final 18 seconds. "We played a good 24 minutes," McMillan said. "We need to put together a good 48-minute game." Andrei Kirilenko had 13 points and eight rebounds and Malone and Harpring grabbed nine rebounds apiece as Utah extended its home winning streak to five games. The Jazz have won 11 of their last 13 to move a season-high eight games over .500. Payton collected 27 points and eight assists to lead the struggling Sonics, who have lost 10 of 12. Rashard Lewis, Brent Barry and reserve Desmond Mason had 11 points apiece for Seattle, which has lost six straight games for the first time since the 1990-91 season.
